Not sure if eligible for compensation

HI all,
Was due to travel back from Malaga on 20/06 at 00.05 on Easyjet flight number EZY8616. When i arrived at the airport i was informed the flight was cancelled a few days earlier and all passengers had received an email.
I had not received an email, only one two days before from Easyjet to say there may not be food/drinks on the flight. They told me that because i had booked via Onthebeach they had sent the cancellation notice to Onthebeach (who did not pass it on to me). They booked me onto a flight the following day so all good in that respect and told me i could claim back the expenses for hotel/travel etc which i've done on their website.
Just wondering if i would also be eligible for compensation, reasons why i'm not sure is,
1. If they did inform Onthebeach a few days earlier and it wasn't passed onto me, perhaps they could have got me onto a different flight around the same time as the original one, meaning no case for compensation as i would have arrived at a similar time.
2. I don't know the reason for cancellation, is there any way to find out?
I have contacted Onthebeach but not had a response so far.
Thanks

Whether compensation would be payable would be dependent on the reason for cancellation and whether this was within the control of the airline.
Gatwick has asked airlines to trim schedules to avoid a complete meltdown in their own operations, so this is likely (but not definitely) outside the control of the airline. It's about 50 rotations a day that are being forcibly culled, however looking at the cancellations, these mainly are routes where a larger aircraft can operate merged flights.
You will need to contact Easyjet to find out the reason for cancellation before I can answer this. You have full entitlement to your expenses though under EC261.💙💛 💔0 -
