MyTrip charging £30 processing fee for refund of cancelled WizzAir flight.

Hi,

My flight was cancelled 3 hours before departure on 29 May. I contacted WizzAir and requested a refund for the outgoing flight and compensation under EC Regulation 261/2004. WizzAir responded to say they would refund the flight and completely ignored any reference to the compensation.

My compensation claim is now going through the Aviation Alternative Dispute Resolution scheme, who have accepted my case and contacted WizzAir and I'm waiting for a response.

With regards to the refund. WizzAir sent the money to MyTrip who I booked the flight through. MyTrip did not inform me of this and I only found out today after calling them directly. They have confirmed they received the refund and are now processing it for me for a fee of £30. It's a disgrace that not only did they make no effort to tell me the money was with them, but that I am also being charged £30 for a refund that WizzAir owe me.

Has anyone contested something similar and had any success? The charge is mentioned in their T&C's so I'm assuming there is nothing I can do but wanted to check. So far it has been an expensive lesson in never using either company again.

Thank you

The £30 is your contractual fee with your chosen booking agent who are charging you for their time. I recommend always booking directly with the airline.

You had the option to book directly with Wizz to avoid this fee but sadly chose not to, even though they offer multiple options such as online and app. You also gave up important rights such as the right to a full refund within 7 days of cancellation in booking with a company unauthorised to sell Wizz tickets.

On the compensation front, do you know the reason for cancellation of your flight? This will affect your legal rights. Not saying you're not owed, however information will be required if you require help with this issue.

Thanks. Lesson learned. I went with MyTrip as they were cheaper than WizzAir.

I believe the cancellation was due to staffing issues. Staff at Gatwick Airport handed out information on the compensation claim we were entitled to.

In this case, probably yes compensation will be payable.

You can continue to nudge via the complaints form, remember to use the phrase 'EC261' if your flight number starts W6 or 'UK261' if your flight number starts W9. This may be quicker when it's clear what you want exactly, as the team dealing with this are not native English speakers.

As you say it's a lesson learned.  Stop and think how a third party agent can sell you a low cost airline ticket cheaper than the airline directly?  They can't.... it's a loss leader and they make up for that with all their admin fees, and for upselling extras like seat selection and baggage for more than the airline charge.
