Eon next

I signed up to a 2 year fix with eon next last summer and had nothing but issues with my meters

from the beginning of the year the meters started sending readings direct to eon the issue is there’s readings are wrong the readings are going backwards and generating incorrect credits on my account

I have complained a couple of times but the bottom line is I have generation 1 meters and it’s not possible to replace them so I just have to send manual readings

also a few days ago the gas meter just died the screen won’t power on I believe this runs on a battery that may have died eon have missed appointments to fix this although my account has been credited for inconvenience

just wondering how other people are finding eon next

Eon next is a supply tariff - the meters are supplied by the Meter Operator ( probably what used to be your old regional board ) - they are not the same company.

    Hi Jordanparly92

We are also with Eon Next and have had nothing but trouble with them since the switch over from Eon.  We have a Smart meter Smet 1 that no longer sends meter readings to them so now at their request we have to send readings in monthly. They have said that some of the Smet 1 meters won't be able to send readings into them initially but over a few months their systems will update and sort this issue out.  We explained to them that our meter hadn't sent readings in since last August 2021 when it was still under Eon and that they were looking into the issue but they said to wait a couple of months and all will be fine but it wasn't.  They are now apparently trying to connect everything up manually and that's the last we heard from them this was about 2 months ago.

We got an email from them today that asked us for our meter reading again.

Their customer service is dreadful now whereas before we found Eon's customer service good.

Also finding Eon ok.  They have discovered there are Smart meters - I had no idea and neither did the previous energy supplier.  And they are not chasing for the £600 debit on our account which I find refreshing.  I know the debit will clear in time - possibly by the time we come out of our current fixed deal but that's fine by me.

E.ON are (I believe anyway) the only supplier that is also a MAP (meter asset provider) so if they fitted the meters then they will indeed own them. They are also their own meter operator in the midlands, north and Wales. I’m the south and Scotland they use Morrisons.

I'm not sure what DE is thinking of. If your current supplier is E.ON Next, it's E.ON Next that is responsible for your meters.

The consumer’s supplier is responsible for smart meters not the Meter Operator. By way of example, I had issues with my SMETS2 electricity meter 18 month ago and the Octopus smart meter team installed a replacement.

E.oN Next is a supplier and part of the E.oN Group. It was set up by E.oN and it uses Octopus Energy’s Kraken billing system. Initially, customers ex NPower were moved to E.oN Next. This move was deemed to be a success and all of E.oN’s domestic customer base was moved to the new company/technology base.

I'm with Eon Next and found them fine so far, but I just submit manual meter reads every month then just bill me according to those readings. If the battery has died in your gas meter and you still have a gas supply you are doing well as typically the gas is shut off when the battery dies to ensure you don't get any free gas.
Most generation 1 meters can be remotely updated to generation 2, but of course that does mean they must be communicating, else an engineer visit is required.
  • Just an update an engineer attended today said the meter was broken and also was prehistoric replaced both gas and electric and I now have a working in home display for the first time since I moved in

Very happy overall as I’m sure the engineer could have just replaced the battery in the gas meter for a quick fix
