Meter reading visits - every 2 years?

How often do you get people coming to read your gas and electricity meters? I can't remember the last time someone came to read ours! Maybe it's because we switch supplier quite frequently? Or maybe it's because we send in regular readings? Is it still the case that energy suppliers have to send somebody to read your meter…

The last meter reading someone took was way back in July 2015 when I changed to a smart meter to take the free electric from BG. I've not had anyone read my outside meter or the electric meter that's indoors since and certainly not since I moved into the flat in April 2011 before that.
