To declare window tint or to not declare window tint?

Sorry, I appreciate you didn't say otherwise. I guess I was trying to say that the insurers would possibly only care if the front windows were tinted as there's potentially an issue with that, rather than the standard rear window tints.JustAnotherSaver said:Bigphil1474 said:
The rules on the amount of light only apply to the windscreen and front side windows.I never said otherwise as I know the law on front tints. It was diystarter7 who started talking about front tints
Thanks though.I personally tell them of any modification I know about. On my last car I was with a company who charged £8 if memory serves, for the rear tints. Not bad but still, they wanted to know.I'm with a different insurer now and they didn't charge anything (different car).0 -
Admiral are a real pain. Their claims department refused to payout because someone had factory fitted extras. So everyone says declare all your options. The quotation and policy department obviously have no way to record them. So you phone up and tell them you have factory fit privacy glass. "What % tint have you added?". Ends up sounding like you are boy racer when you see the modifications list even though it's just a standard car.0

Admiral Group are an exception in wanting to know about factory fit optional extra, most insurers only want to know about post manufacture mods. To add insult to injury Admiral do not cover any optional extras/mods so your £6k of alloys, metallic paint, leather seats etc all get priced as 0.Ibrahim5 said:Admiral are a real pain. They certainly do have ways of recording it, having the "AMG Kit" on my previous car for the last few weeks of being with Admiral the schedule was a massive list of items which were contained in the kit.0 -
Go to a friendly Ford dealer who can look up the factory options from your VIN number, perhaps even give you a print out.Signature on holiday for two weeks0

Or, don't most cars have the factory-fitted options on a sticker either somewhere on the car, or in the handbook / service book? My Vauxhalls from the 1970s have the "SPI" plate which says what features were fitted in the factory.Mutton_Geoff said:Go to a friendly Ford dealer who can look up the factory options from your VIN number, perhaps even give you a print out.
In any case, if it's been added, won't it almost certainly be a film applied to the glass, so you'd probably find at least one air bubble somewhere.0 -
Go to https://ford.7zap.com/en/car/
Pop your VIN in and then look down the bottom left for the manufacturer original specifications to see whether you can find privacy glass as per this example from my Ford:

Looks like only for old Fords, only up to around 2017. It lists Galaxy / SMax 2015- but can't find my SIL's 2017.1 -

Yes, put your reg in the Ford ETIS site:
https://www.etis.ford.com/
And that will give you your VIN.
That site used to display all the car details and options but it is restricted to authorised dealers now.1
