Help Needed - Which ISP

Some ISP's do have a condition that the line be a BT one
I can understand why that is for broadband access. But if you're using an 0845 number to connect. I can't see what the problem is. The telephone company will take their share of the call charges when you dial up to access the internet.
Like I said. It would be the same as phoning an 0845 number to the phone company. How many surrealists does it take to change a lightbulb?

An example is Tesco ISP requires the use of an BT line. The reason I assume is due to LLU and the ISP probably receives more income from those using a BT line (because of deals they have in place with BT and LLU, etc) than they do from just using a 0845 on its own from somone using a non-BT network.Rex_Mundi wrote:..I can understand why that is for broadband access. bbb_uk wrote:Maybe worth trying the ISP posted by alared (Free-DialUp.Net) as the per minute costs to that ISP (an 0845) from a telewest line are: Daytime 3.95ppm, Evening 1.49ppm & weekend at 1ppm.
With the exception of weekday daytime, then they are cheaper than telewests' own ISP which is 3ppm at all times and as you say its likely to be just for the kids during every other weekend then it'll be 1ppm.
Tried Free-DialUp.net. Conflicting instructions for password (one gives it as internet, the other dialup but presumably both would work. I used internet and it took less than 1 minute to work. Have a very happy friend (but with a very slooooooow internet connection).
Might suggest he try that utility I saw advertised last night on tv that speeds up your connection for £24 a year? Has anyone else tried it?There is always light within the dark0
