Refund but paid

So back in March I bought two pieces of furniture from Furniture123. A table and a set of chairs. I paid with Paypal Credit. They offered a set delivery date (which I could choose) which was pretty much the sole reason I used them compared to someone like Wayfair. The date for both items to arrive was due, and a few days before, I was told one item couldn't come on the Friday agreed. I said I'd cancel both items then as I wanted a table that matched the chairs I bought. They assured me that they could get the chairs delivered a few days later so I agreed to accept the table on Friday and the chairs on Tuesday.
I get an email Thursday saying the table is due Friday. The table arrives. No issues there.
Monday comes, and no email to confirm it is arriving. So I call the company and ask when I will get the confirmation email. The date has now been changed to "maybe Wednesday." I'm not happy but I can have someone sit in for me.
By Wednesday morning, still no confirmation email so I call again. Nope, chairs will not arrive, so I cancel. I tell my friend they don't need to stay in. The company accept this. Later that afternoon, the chairs attempt to be delivered. I call again and say I am not waiting in again as they've now misled me three times. I ask for a refund, they refuse.
I then go away for a week. During this time, Paypal finds in my favour and I get a refund. Then when I get home, I find a neighbour (who in fairness had no idea about my issue) accepted deliver of the chairs. This neighbour then told my friend (who was keeping an eye on my house and popping in a few times during the week), who collected the chairs and in an effort to be helpful, put them up for me. They didn't tell me until I got home.
As soon as I got home, I emailed the company, and told them as the chairs had arrived, and I couldn't now reject them, I will pay for them. They wouldn't accept Paypal nor would they even talk to Paypal, so I had to use my credit card. As far as I was concerned, the matter was done.
Fast forward to yesterday and I get a refund from the company to Paypal credit from this company and then a bunch of invoices. I explained to the company that I had already paid, and they said if I dont pay again they'll recover the goods. I've spoken to a bunch of people at Paypal and the advice varies from :
1- Do nothing. Direct company to Paypal
2- Under Paypals own agreement, I didn't have to pay for the chairs in the first place as a case was in my favour. The company need to talk to Paypal and they shouldn't be harassing me.
3- Just pay them again with my credit card (even though I would struggle).
The common sense approach, to me, would be recover the money from the credit account but this doesn't seem to be an option. But I am not in a position to keep using my credit card. I am also concerned if this happens again as the company doesn't seem very organised. Even Paypal can't see why they refunded a second time as it was a manual decision .
I really don't know what to do in this situation. I have credit card statements and emails showing I paid for the chairs once they arrived. If the company have now made an error with Paypal credit, surely they should be dealing with them and not me-as I haven't done anything wrong.
Any advice on what my rights are would be great. I just want this dealt with as the company were a nightmare last time.

Quite confusing. Do you owe them money?

I understand the story itself but like PR I can't quite work out what the issue is. Whether they're asking you to pay twice for the same chairs or just asking to pay the once because they refunded too much.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -
I understand it as
You paid by Paypal, opened a case with Paypal and got a refund>
You got the chairs so paid by credit card.
You have a debt on your credit card for the payment for the chairs.
A second refund was made to Paypal so presumably you now have a credit on Paypal and the chairs are now NOT paid for.
Now the company want you to pay for the chairs?
It seems reasonable that they want you to pay for the chairs.
Can you not use the credit on Paypal or get that transferred to your credit card/bank account?
Are you trying to get the company to claim the refund back from Paypal?0 -
In short.
- OP bought table and chairs due to be delivered on a Friday
- Seller stated table would arrive Friday but chairs not until Tuesday.
- Seller then said on Tuesday that chairs might arrive Wednesday.
- OP cancels the chair order on Wednesday morning as there had been no delivery notice, and gets a refund from Paypal (for both??)
- attempted delivery of chairs Wednesday afternoon but OP was out.
- OP goes on holiday for a week and chairs are delivered.
- Seller does not want PayPal payment. OP seems to think they don't have to pay for them.
@popadom - have you paid for both the table and chairs? If not, then pay, as you have set them up and are using them. If you have already paid, then there is no issue.
I don't get why this is even an issue.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')
No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)0 -
I asked them to recover the money the first time through PayPal and they wouldn’t, so I had to use my Credit Card.sheramber said:I understand it as

I’ve asked PayPal to transfer it back but they can’t seem to do that and the company will only accept payment via credit or debit card, which I don’t have the money for as I believed the item was paid for-which it was until they made an error to refund me.If the money had been refunded to my debit account, I could have just transferred it back. But it’s gone to a credit account which no one seems to be able to transfer back .0 -
See corrections- I hope that clears it up.pinkshoes said:In short.

- When I got back from holiday, I paid for the chairs on my credit card as the company wouldn't accept Paypal(even though it was the original method). This was back in April. I considered the issue finished. I got the chairs. They got payment.
- Yesterday, the company refunded me via Paypal into my PayPal credit account. This was not requested by me or Paypal.
- Company now demanded I pay them again via credit card. I do not have the money to pay by credit or debit card. Paypal haven't been clear on why the company can't be refunded via the credit account. I use Paypal credit as I can pay £30 a month of the items. I cannot afford to send money from my credit card as I am close to its limit.
-I did not expect to have this refund and pay again. Company refuse to see it is their issue and will not take payment by PayPal credit again.

Why can't you just transfer your PayPal balance to your bank account, then pay using the debit card for that account?

So you've been refunded through PayPal twice, and paid by credit card once (as it stands now, not what has gone on back and forth)?popadom said:

In other words, they've refunded the payment PayPal had already reversed?

Yes, that is how it stands. And yes, they have refunded the payment PayPal already reversed. No one seems to know why they did it- the company won't tell me.unholyangel said:

I have told them this and they said they'd remove goods if I dont pay via credit/debit. But I hadn't expected this to happen so dont have the funds. I can pay again with Paypal credit but they refuse.0 -
Paypal credit isn't my Paypal account, it's a bit like Klarna (buy now pay later). I can't just take from it and pay myself.Aylesbury_Duck said:Why can't you just transfer your PayPal balance to your bank account, then pay using the debit card for that account?1
