Norton is the root of all evil!!!! However if you still want to buy it I suggest you wait till xmas sales start as it is normally one of the products reduced.

Norton is awful - don't buy it. It is hugely memory intensive and difficult to remove from your system and has too many conflicts with other packages. You are much better off with ESET Smart Security.

its for my parents pc, they seem to like it and havent had any problems with it at all so its just to keep them happy

Well it's detection rate is pretty poor in comparison to others so not seeing any problems doesn't mean anything as it's possible to be infected with viruses without knowing. That's what makes it rubbish as well as taking up too much resources on the pc. If you want to buy a security suite then buy Eset Smart Suite. It's far better and it's extremely user friendly (I'd say more so than Norton).

Someone has to say a good word about Norton, but is not going to be me.

So many people including myself have caught viruses while using norton, leaves one to question how good is it and what exactly does it really do (except inform you it is time to pay again)?

I see all this stuff slagging Norton off etc but I've used it for about 6 years now in one form or another and have been very happy ie virus free etc. What I dont see here and would be interested to read are links to informed critical tests of products like Norton and then folk like me and no doubt at least some others can make proper informed decisions about the benfits of comparable systems and where to put our money. Twice I had the problem where I caught 2 different trojans within weeks of installing Norton. The Trojans took up so much processor time that it was obvious something was wrong. Eventually found the file that was causing it. went into explorer and as I selected it just before deletion Norton came up and said that I had a virus.

I can't honestly say I know anybody that uses this product and never has had a virus except for labp04. I'd do an on-line scan quite sharpish if I were him!

Using norton I was infected within 3 weeks. I now use Eset and i'm fairly problem free, however I have installed a virus on here twice in the last 3 years.
