I downloaded this after seeing a post on here.
 How accurate is it?
It states i am using £233 worth of electricity a month and £26 of gas yet i am only paying BG £120 for both.
BG App actually suggest lowering the amount but i wanted to build a credit for winter.

  • Bright App is 100% accurate as far as consumption is concerned save for the fact that a fixed calorific value is used to convert gas volume to kWh.

As far as costs are concerned, Bright App uses the tariff information that your supplier has sent to your ESME and GSME (electricity and gas meters). This may be incorrect: some suppliers are better than others when it comes to updating tariff information.

Personally, I would not use Bright App to calculate my monthly DD payment. You must know whether you are consuming £233 worth of electricity in a month. If so, paying BG £1440 in a year is going to leave you with a very big debt going forward.

Im not 100% certain but I think it depends on what tariff is set up on your smart meter. I know mine with BG isnt correct. My meter shows the SVT but I'm currently on a fixed rate, so slightly cheaper rates.

However the Kwh should be right, maybe not spot on with your supplier but in the ballpark. I suggest you calculate the cost yourself using the Kwh on the app and the tariff prices you're on to check if you're paying the correct monthly amount. Then take it from there.

After fixing on 1st April just this week some 10 weeks later the bright app has updated my standing charge and kWh Price. The smart meter was done within 2 days of contacting Eon Next.

I would only trust your own kWh readings, calculated with your price per kWh and standing charge to see how you are really doing.

Those do look like SVT figures Marcia. Clock the 3 dots on the top right of that page to turn the data into kWh figures. They will be the correct usage.

The screens that you are looking at are your usage not the cost of the energy consumed.

Press the … icon at the top right of the App and you can see how this translates to actual cost. As I said above, the cost will only be accurate in the supplier has sent the correct tariffs to your meters.

Those figures are the kWh not £’s.  If they are correct and you do use 3 kWh per day,I wish I had your usage!!

oh I just looked at mine and the daily figure has not updated for today yet so that skews the figures 😐

  • @Marcia if your tariffs are correct, you have used £77.22 of electricity so far this month with an estimate of £136 for the month. You need to raise your monthly D D payment. What are your estimated annual consumption figures (in kWh) for electricity and gas.
