People have and will lose access so they do need to have some kind of process to verify this, its common for other services to do so.

They even suggested I sign up with a new account and contact the buyers who had pending parcels.... yea right.

If you can get in at work, just go to your account and turn off 2FA

This was a a suggestion too (but they couldn't tell me where), but does't seem to be any way to do so. They are rolling out or "opting" everyone onto this process.

If you can find where it is in your and let me know to be sure?

from memory, click on your name (top left) then choose account

of the options one is I think security or similar - choose that, then 2FA then turn off

I did it a couple weeks ago when they turned it on for me.

Does that work? Really want to turn MFA off but didn't think you could use eBay impose it.

Yes - click on the drop-down arrow at top left at the main eBay screen (where it says 'Hello Fred') and choose 'account'

Then go to 'sign in and security', then 2FA and click Edit to turn it off.

Also under 'account' you can update your phone number.

I Just tried it on mine and I don't get any option to leave the 2FA system, my only choices are a) a push notification to my ebay app on phone or b) a text to my phone. I also don't even have those options until I am logged in and go through my account settings, so if OP cannot access their account they cannot make any changes. This does make sense as otherwise a scammer only needs to remove the 2FA and can get in with a stolen password, I wouldn't like to think that a scammer could just turn off my security settings!

Strange - a couple of weeks ago I was 'enrolled' without my say-so in 2FA and I simply went in and turned it off. Maybe something has changed.

The OP was logged on at work they said hence that is why I wondered if they could turn it off from there.

Wonder if the OP is able to update their telephone number to the new one from their logged-on system at work?
  • If it helps at all, you can receive the text verification to a landline number with a basic phone. You will get a strange robo call from BT while a disjointed voice reads the number out to you, but it works just fine. As op has stated they can log in at work I would suggest that they do that, and update the number while there to their home landline.

No this won't work. I had my landline in one of my accounts but when I went to list something I had a screen saying update your phone number to a mobile as landlines are not acceptable.

This is where I am at, no longer allowed to turn it off. Eventually everyone will be opted in.

Suggestion for this is UK law requires them to do so. Though it doesn't specifically say mobile/sms though...
