To avoid possible confusion I'll just highlight that @HumberFlyer isn't the OP.5

And should start a new thread
It's confusing me
I will post the information requested later after I'm home from work6 -

The actual meter readings I have are as follows:
15th February 2021
Electricity - 56556
Gas - 6565
26th March 2022
Electricity - :61236
Gas - 7639
31st March 2022
Electricity - 61281
Gas - 7653
16th June 2022
Electricity - 61967
Gas- 7779
Images of latest bill attached for March 2022
I have no bills for April or May from I can see in my account. The £45 DD went out OK
I have also attached a pic of my gas meter

I have checked bills going back 12 months to June 2021 and they show a credit single every month
I thought they weren't allowed to do that
Let me know if any further information is required

After the posted March bill your credit is down to £111.21. The whole bill is based on estimates, and you have used 1775KWh electricity more than estimated on 31/03/22 and 274 addition al units gas.
You have used an additional £368.70 for electricity plus an £122.35 gas up to 31/03/22. So you are in debt at this day £379.85.
Since than until 16/06/22 you have paid 3 debit orders of £45 -= £135. You have used electricity for 192.08 and gas 103.02, so your debt increased by £160.10.
So you total debt on this day is £539.94
Edit
I only just realised your meter is cubic feet. So the conversion to m3 is missing. This adds another £220 to the gas cost up to end of March plus £185 from April to 16/06/22.
This would bring your debt up to £945.0 -
Lots and lots of ESTIMATED readings leading to big discrepancies between Actual and Estimated
Elec 59500 24/3 is Estimated but on 31/3 it was 61281 Actual (thats about £400)
and the gas 7379 and 7963 - thats about £800
You are using far more than you are paying for
Do you give your readings to the supplier?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0 -
@Robin9
you got a wrong reading for gas, it is only 7653, not 7963, but still £340.
@pikachu
What is especially scary is your use of gas, almost 4000KWh in 2.5 months when most people have their heating of. 7779 - 7653 = 126 units ft3 = 3951 KWh
You used in this 2.5 months
£192 electricity
£288 gas
£ 50 standing charges

£530 Energy

As someone who stays at home all day or at least kept the heating on for the cat. I can honestly say if you don't go out a lot the gas bill really does add up.
It also depends on the type of house you have. My house is freezing. We've just had that hot spell. I was sitting under a blanket on the hottest day of the year. The sun doesn't get into my house at all. The sun rises on one window side and sets on the other side. Ith a house blocking my sun the rest of the day.
In Oct Nov Dec I used 6500 units of gas. That was with the heating on a thermostat set at 19c
The cost to heat a house all day is incredibly expensive.
Someone else may have a 4 bedroomed house but if they're in work all day and only put the heating on a few hours a night that's different from someone having to heat it all day. If you have large patio doors that get the sun you're getting free energy. If it's modern and has good insulation then it's holding the heat in. Unfortunately old 1930s houses are damp and cold.
Ive now turned my heating to 14c and I wear a coat inside. The house is becoming damp and mouldy, but what can I do?
I'm not much help but just thought I'd mention that circumstances contribute to how much gas you use.0 -
@pochase raises a serious question. Your March - June consumption is very high - why ? When did you shut the heating down for the Summer months - do you use a focal point gas fire or run your hot water very hot ?
Electric is quite typical but that alone is more than your £45 DD
Are you billed monthly ?Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0
