Flight Cancellation WizzAir

Options
My name is Anna. I have a quick question as I am looking for a bit of guidance.

My flight from Chania to Gatwick was cancelled 2 hours prior to the scheduled flight. As a result me and my partner had to pay for alternative flights with a different airline as Wizzair had no available flights for 72 hours.

We had to pay for alternate flights with a different airline and 2 days accomodation, which I have already completed a expense compensation claim for with Wizz Air.

Could you please give some information as to whether I should also complete a general compensation claim? Or would that affect my expenses claim. If yes, would both passengers complete a compensation claim separately?

Thank you very much for your time!

You'd be entitled to compensation if the original flight was cancelled for reasons within the airline's control, but not if it was exceptional circumstances, so you'd need to identify the cause.

Claiming for that shouldn't effect your legal entitlement to unavoidable expenses incurred when arranging replacement flights, and I'd suggest that the lead passenger would probably be best positioned to claim on behalf of both.

Normally airlines separate compensation claims, probably £350 each in your case, which is a fixed amount from expenses claims which are clearly individually assessed
  • Hi Annakesan,

I was supposed to be on the flight leaving Chania on 11th June. I rebooked a flight for the 16th which was also cancelled. The second cancellation they didn't give me the option of a refund on the website, and sent just a £10 refund for over payment! I don't want to ring them as that will cost a large amount of time and money.

What form did you use for your claim? A Whizz Air form?
  • Hello, yes you need to go on their page Refunds and Compensations and select one and make your claim.
