  • Send Wilko a letter saying that if they don't collect it within 7 days you will advertise it for sale and they are welcome to contact you for the proceeds minus your reasonable costs.  It might stimulate some urgency.

How is it a fire risk?  If you're in a block of flats and it's blocking a labelled fire escape route then you need to move it somewhere.
Thanks for the advice. I live in my own house but we haven’t long moved. The box is GIGANTIC and the only place we can put it that’s not outside is next to the front door so we have to move it every time we want to use the front door. The only people at risk are me and my husband.

That's a right pain having to move it every time you leave the house!. Surely they must be somewhere else you can store it?

You don't have a garage, shed, spare bedroom or space in any room in any part of the house?

I'd be giving them a deadline and say that after that you will need to move the large box out of your house which will mean it is sitting on the pavement or road.  Given the number of reports of deliveries being stolen from people's front of property I would expect it would disappear very quickly.

It doesn't really count as a fire risk, then, just an inconvenience.  Add to the letter that you have nowhere secure you are able to store it.  Again, it might stimulate some action if they think it's at risk of being stolen, or damaged because you have to keep moving it in and out of the house to be able to access your front door.
It's more than just an inconvenience if it's preventing safe and rapid exit from the building if there was a fire.
In which case, don't store it there.  I know OP retains responsibility for it whilst it's in her possession but if doing so poses a genuine fire risk it needs to be put outside.
That is, perhaps, another thing the OP could include in an email/letter- "Due to the size of the package, this is causing a fire hazard in our home by blocking our only escape route, therefore I will not be able to keep the package indoors"

  • Thank you so much for the help everyone. Wilkos have said they’re going to collect it tomorrow. Hopefully it’s fifth time lucky 🤞if not I’ll give them a firm deadline by the end of the week before I’m putting it on the drive. Unfortunately due to reasons that would take far too long to explain here there really is nowhere else it can go.

You don't need to specify the reasons - if you don't have room to store then item they misdelivered to you, then you don't have room.   It's your responsibility to look after the thing *as best you can* - but there are limits on what the expectation there would be, and having to put some of your own things outside, and/or not being able to use your house properly are beyond those limits.
