I have paid my years council tax in full less the £150. I will wait and see what my very ineffective council decides to do. I have checked the list and its tbc.  I will imagine they will contact me to ask how I want it to be paid, they will pay it to me, then I will contact them to pay my remaining £150.
Is your home in Band A-D for council tax?
Yes, otherwise I wouldn't be entitled to £150.
    Was just checking👍
  • I have heard nothing from my council. After seeing an article online about the payments, I checked the council website and found a form to fill in. A form which took 5 attempts to complete as it was so glitchy. Received an email confirmation to say they'd pay it asap. That was a month ago and still no payment. It's taking the mick!

They key part there is should you have paid in full by now? If so then the council will begin enforcement measures as you are in arrears, paying the hill and receiving the rebate are wo separate processes.
You will have to explain how I'm in arrears please.  Are you saying because I paid nearly £2000 and I only have £150 of this 2022/2023 bill outstanding that the council will consider enforcement action? By my reckoning I'm not in arrears until February, by which time I will have received £150. Which I will send straight back to them
With Council Tax, you either have an agreement to pay monthly, in which case the payments are due in 10/12 roughly equal payments each month throughout the year, or the full balance falls due in April of the new fiscal year as a lump sum. Whether they would commence enforcement action is another question, but remember different parts of councils are rarely a joined up operation, forget one hand knowing what the other is doing, they seem to lack the ability to know what a hand is half the time.

although some councils are saying to their bill payers, that if they dont pay by direct debit and dont supply any bank details then the £150 will be credited to their council tax account, which will suit me and save me a job.
Some councils are, some are not, it would be wise to know what your council is saying, rather than them deeming your Council Tax as being in arrears because you make an assumption.

It says in the link provided that the information isnt available. I checked this week and they are making payments and sending out letters.

I'm not making an assumption as soon as they sort out the £150 they can have it back. Whichever way they do it.
ETA. There is an update, if I dont provide bank details my council tax account will be credited.

I doubt very much they will think I'm in arrears. After all I made efforts to set up a direct debit in March, first payment in April, that didnt get actioned, so they wrote to tell me that it would be 9 payments starting in May.

I emailed back to say there was no direct debit showing on my account.
They emailed back to say there was.

No payment was taken in May, I followed this up, the council replied to say my bank said my account was closed.

I emailed to say it wasn't, they then advised they would now take 8 direct debits starting in June. I got totally fed up and made a lump sum payment.

They then emailed back to ask if I wanted to pay the £150 balance by direct debit. I replied to say that I would settle this years account when the £150  was paid to me.

They replied to say thankyou and is there anything else they can help me with.

My parents have a direct debit set up, they have been advised to expect the payment by September.

    Can you sense my frustration?

I became aware with issues over the energy rebate due to receiving an updated CT bill (income changed as now retired causing an overpayment).
As I paid the full amount due on 2 April, thought no more about it until that amended bill. It stated that the overpayment will be refunded automatically.
Contacted the council 1 July only to be told that it had to be requested. No problem, got it resolved & on a closing note, asked about the energy rebate.
I was asked when it was applied for & gave application number, then got told that I should have already received it.
Got given an e-mail address to chase it up.
I do have an issue though with the online form our council used. grantapproval.co.uk. That domain name is registered in France!
