What is best time to drive on Sundays, like how late or early, I want to be able to cut across three lanes, if I need if I end up in wrong lane.
the odd car or two doesn’t matter cos I can just wait for them to go.
May sure you look and know it's safe before doing so.

On satnavs, generally, how much notice do they give you of your next turn/junction/roundabout??

I don't use one but have been a passenger on a few occasions.

In my limited experience, they seem of less use at big junctions, especially when you have double slips, on motorways.   M6 to M1 north or south for example.  (Boss ended up going the wrong way 😂)

Also for going north at the Dartford tunnel, and wanting Thurock, does it remind you in advance to take the left hand tunnel 😉

But it's really difficult to come off on the north carriageway when travelling south so it's not an issue.

Sorry I misremembered, it was going north on the M42 for M6 (M1).   We ended up going west on the M6.

@sim2335 you won't be the first person to around a roundabout 2 or even 3 times.

Get out early on a Sunday morning - it's light from about 4 o'clock.

The bit you need to learn is anticipation - and that can be a mile from your junction - it's too easy to get trapped in the wrong lane , particularly on a motorway and miss your junction.

Drive without the radio on and concentrate on the road ahead
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

So user/driver error. The sat nav was either set wrong or the driver left a junction early, it's clearly sign posted.

It is if you read them rather than rely on satnav too much😉

As you can see you start of on left lane, you have to otherwise, I wouldn’t have got there unless I’m doing something wrong how on earth you meant to cut across 3 lanes, that’s harder at part but find that whole area confusing.

I think the right lanes go off to join the motorway about 600 yards before you get to the point in that image - knowing that the need to be to the right is coming gives you time to move across one lane at a time.

I know it sounds daft, but do you talk to yourself during your drives.    Saying your moves out loud to yourself might help.    That's what advanced drivers have to do on their assessments, I think.   They have to verbally confirm all the hazards they see and give running commentary as to what's going on around them.

This.  I struggle with “complicated” driving and have to force myself to do it sometimes.  I don’t want to end up like a lot of women I know who didn’t drive for years and then suddenly had to due to bereavement or a partner’s illness.  On my commute (Almondsbury Interchange- M4/M5) I get to the junction, switch off the radio and go - out loud - “across one”…”across two”….”are you going to let me in, thank you, across three”…”across four.”  Same with roundabout exists.

FWIW, I find Google Maps really poor for navigation and I prefer a sat nav with lane guidance.  Also FWIW I really struggled with a manual and was forced into an automatic due to an accident.  I wouldn’t ever go back to a manual now.  I’m autistic and dyspraxic with a dodgy ankle.
