They lasted 6 weeks so not sure how you can blame the hairdresser

With alopecia surely it would point to this.
My hair has been the same for many years with no further progression, and suddenly  nearly all of my has fallen out.

It sounds like you have not been properly advised and could reasonably have expected a “hair loss specialist” to be a specialist in this area.
if they are part of a company you need to take it up with the management.
if they are a one man/woman band then it’s going to be direct.

I think you’d have recourse and presumably they’d have insurance.
keep notes of the salient point of what is discussed and dates.
you may well have to get a solicitor to pursue this for you.

it worth checking if you have free legal insurance with your home cover or a free helpline, otherwise you are likely to need a solicitor.

it’s unlikely they will voluntarily give you what you deserve.

Why is this a medical issue?
a GP won’t know much if anything about hair extensions.
seems to be a consumer issue to me.
  • @lisyloo the two events could be entirely unconnected.

The hair loss could be due to hormonal or other changes, the OP has had alopecia for many years and that may have progressed.

Does sound like the alopecia has extended further and is the likely root cause of the hair loss.

It may have happened naturally regardless of the extensions.
Given that hair loss is apparently a known risk for extensions - see Catsacor's post above - then seems likely that the extensions are likely to have been a contributor here at the very least.

    GPs are not specialists.
I would expect the sufferer of 20 years to know more about their condition and any recent changes than a GP.

it doesn’t sound to me as if there is a medical issue (other than a long standing well known one).
it sounds like the procedure that was done should not have been done in the OPs case or as a minimum they should have been advised of the risk.

My suggestion would be to firstly search home insurance for free legal advice.

if the OP goes to the GP then the GP will probably ask about recent changes and the person who is an expert on the OPs condition and any lifestyle changes is the OP themselves.
  • @lisyloo are you a medical professional or just a forum user ?

Unless you are, all you are doing is speculating about what has happened just like the rest of us.

There may be a link or just bad timing with something else that has happened in the OP's life.

How did you pick that particular 'expert'?

Does the hair loss expert have qualifications?

Are they a member of a registered association?

No I am not a medical professional.
If the OP feels it is a medical issue then they should of course seek medical help.

A long term sufferer of a condition usually knows when they need to seek medical help.
