EV comparison
I’m looking into getting a EV but can’t see how it is better off for me financially. What are your thoughts?
taking the Kia ev6 for example, it’s 45k or around £500 a month with a £4K deposit as I need 20k miles.
Currently drive an old i20 (£189) finance payment and around £240 per month in petrol.
I would be able to charge the EV in work so no need for home charging etc
thanjs!

There are a lot of variables, but a £45k EV is unlikely to save you money vs a £19k ICE. I'd suggest that you look in the £25-30k bracket if you actually want to cut your costs. I'd look at salary sacrifice or personal loan rather than PCP/HP.

What are the full bases that you intend to do this comparison?
AIUI, and EV6 is a more substantial car than an i20.
On a like-for-like basis, where the car would be changed in any case, the likelihood that an EV comes out to have lowest total cost of ownership is high.
If comparing a new EV versus old ICE, that certainty reduces.
A better comparison to the i20 would be something like the Corsa EV.
You also need to consider not just total 20k miles per year but how those miles will be driven - type of road, journey pattern etc.2 -
it would be 95% motorway driving. I like the look of the EV6 so wasnt sure if the price could be offset by the savings through switching to an EV(i.e. if it would wokr out at 150 per month more I'd prob do it).
Just looked at autotrader - nothing for under 15k really unless you want a leaf or a renault zoe!!0 -
You'd easily save maybe £150-200/month by going electric, like for like.
So sticking with something i20 sized would save you money but going for something bigger just won't cost you as much more.

On the subject of the Kia EV6 ... it is a nice-looking car, inside and out, so I can understand why you'd try for one if the financials worked out.Jenni x1

How large is the EV6?
I was just looking on the website and it does look a lovely car, but it also looks like it is absolutely enormous, sort of comparable size to a RAV4. Is that correct?
I looked at the Toyota BV4X at the weekend and it was lovely but giant proportions.1 -
Same thoughts here. Nice car, but a step up, so will cost you more. You can find a lot of cars for £10k-£15k less but with similar range, though some will be smaller.
[Looking at prices today, so possibly the cheaper BEV's that got the PiG will rise in price with the Gov announcement that they are ending the £1,500 subsidy scheme.]Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.
For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.2 -

The new ID buzz thing they are advertising right now a classic example 5m long ‘minivan’ but can only get it with 5 seats. Presumably to maximise range.0 -
The Hyundai Kona might be a bit more of a closer match. Shares much of the EV side with the Kia EV6 / Hyundai Ioniq 5 without the size. Not as sporty looking though as more small SUV style.2

I think it was initially that the "premium" SUV cars were priced at the point that could carry the extra few £k for an EV versus ICE.
EV prices are now coming down the "status" positions.
One big thing I did notice is the improvements in efficiency that are being made:- A couple of years ago, the iPace with 90 kWh battery was about the longest range EV you could get, 290 miles
- Toyota BV4X has 70 kWh battery and quotes 317 mile range
