EON next insisting I replace my smets-1 with smets-2

EON fitted smets-1 meters back in the very early days of smart meters. I've been thru several suppliers since, and. Now with eon next. They have not been smart foor years but I believe it's not just change of suppliers but signal issues too maybe.

Fast forward, and like others on eon next they seem to think I'm contractually obliged to have smart meters. They hound me regularly. I've told them I have inactive smets-1 and that has sent them away few times. But the latest conversation with them along this line ended with them telling me they want to swap to smets-2 anyway and booking me in.

Thought this wasn't allowed?

Maybe it's because I have really early smets-1 meters or maybe just ill informed agents?

What are the chances they are going to actually do it when they turn up?

Anyone else had this?

This was also happening to me with Eon Next, continual badgering to have smart meters fitted via email, text, letters etc,a quick chat using the facility on their website sorted things out in minutes, problem solved.
As you already have a smart meter, what's the problem with getting one which is hopefully fully functional?,just curious.
If your not on the SVR tariff is it not a condition that you have,or allow them to fit a mart meter if one can be fitted?,that's what in my T+C's,might not be the same as yours though.

What does your contract say? It should be pretty clear on this point.

It's allowed, but might not count towards E.ON's targets for the smart meter rollout.

If an installer is sent out to fit a meter, and they are physically able to fit it, they will do so.

I'd like them to be fitted. More worried I'll take they day off work and they'll turn up and say 'no' when they see the existing (dumb) smart meters.

Also I'm not on SVR and I'm not bound to install smart meters based on my contract anyway.  That is maybe more of an issue for others in the same situation than for me.

Guy sent by Octopus changed my SMET2 gas and electric meters, fitted in Dec 20 when I was with SP, for new SMET2 this Wednesday.

Octopus were already picking up the leccy readings including export but had not been able to connect to gas meter and I had asked them to investigate. Meter fitter said they were both working ok but changed them anyway as that is what he had been asked to do.

My old SMETS1 meter was fitted by SEE in 2017 and I've been through around six suppliers non of which used it's amart capabilities.

However since SYMBIO went bust I am now with EoN-Next and they've been happily collecting data from it since around February this year. I still check the bills against the readings on the meter just to be sure but so far it's been ok.

It would be nice if they used the same day every month for the readings though. There seems to be a randomness of around five days about it which is a bit irritating.

Are you sure you have SMETS1 meters and not their precursor. The very first smart meters will never be able to be enrolled with the DCC so will need replacing. What make and model are your existing meters?

I'm not sure that was an assumption on my part.

Per this PDF that's an "advanced domestic meter" but I don't think it's SMETS-compliant.
See also footnote 3 on page 5 of this pdf:

We are using the term Advanced Domestic Meter to avoid confusion with the specification that the Smart Metering Programme will designate as being a smart meter.
Your current meter isn't a smart meter in the usual meaning of the term.

Yeah just had a quick Google and it was a bit inconclusive. Looks like battery is beyond its 10 year service life on the gas meter anyway. Fingers crossed my swap will go smoothly, it's some weeks off.
