Post Office claims

Hello
i have a Post Office drop and go account. I dropped off a parcel 2 days ago, but my account wasn’t charged for the parcel being sent. I went into my local branch and was told they had made a mistake, and my parcel must have been posted without being stamped.
I filled out a manifest with the info needed (value of item, level of compensation, service needed).
I have proof of the value of the item, but how likely am I to get my money back for this parcel, which has been “posted”.

I think you are a little ahead of yourself.
The item is likely to be surcharged and the recipient notified of a surcharge item.
You are treating it like the item has ceased to exist

Not getting ahead of myself at all. Clearly you’ve not lost a high value item before,
or are super wealthy that you don’t need to worry….
The manager at the post office said I’d need to claim as these days they won’t send a card out asking for payment.0 -
Why are you so worried? Has the parcel gone missing or something?0

I suspect this is muddled because Post office don’t charge recipients for underpaid postage and never have done, it is Royal Mail who deliver post and who will be the ones seeking to charge the customer for underpaid or missing postage.monya said:Not getting ahead of myself at all. Should you need to make a claim later then it is all outlined here

I don’t use drop and go but I assume you get some sort of official proof of postage or receipt from the PO as you will need that for your claim.
I use online postage, it saves me 50p on a small 2nd class parcel and £1 on 1st class over what the PO charge. I print my labels, do a bulk proof of postage and get the mail centre or PO to stamp a receipt or give me a till POP for all the items.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Yes, it’s not been delivered and it’s not at the post officeManxman_in_exile said:Why are you so worried? Has the parcel gone missing or something?0 -
Never used drop and go, out of interest how would Royal Mail know the parcels were not paid for?
OP what service (1st, 2nd, Special, etc) did you use?In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

I see, that appears correct, watching the video on the Post Office website you don't get a label as part of the process.Ergates said:

Does Drop and Go charge Post Office rates? If so
https://send.royalmail.com/
would be better to use as it's cheaper than the PO, although you'd have to queue up if dropping at the PO for a COP there is the option of collection (which comes with proof of collection) post box if COP not required or dropping off at the delivery office, when I've done this they have scanned them but no idea if that registers anywhere.

It's only been 2 days! My items sent properly labelled and with proof of postage and dropped at the Mail centre 2 days ago also have not been received and are not with the Post office, I don't assume they are lost- just in the system waiting to be dealt with.monya said:

As above, your claim will be with Royal mail and you are far too early to start a claim for loss yet, the parcel will sit in a delivery office waiting to have a silver (@custardy is it silver or red for unpaid postage?) card made up, Post person will leave that card with recipient and they can either pay and claim from you or refuse package.

So lets be clear. Between myself and a Post office worker, Im going to know RM processes bettermonya said:Not getting ahead of myself at all. Clearly you’ve not lost a high value item before,

RM send out cards for underpaid items. This is the current process. What they dont do is fast track the item
Revenue protection is a manual low priority/low staffing resource process.
