Travel compensation

Travelling by EasyJet to Madrid with 8 friends. We were 5 minutes away from going through security when we got notification that the flight had been cancelled.
After 2 hours of getting no where we decided to opt for for a flight that easyJet offered for the same time the next day at 18.0 hours and to be put it up in a hotel overnight.
The next morning during breakfast we received notification that this new flight had again been cancelled leave us with no option but to return home cancel our bookings and put in for the various refunds.
Surely the flight delay compensation 261/2004) should therefore apply to two failed journeys as EasyJet cancelled two separate flights.
I would be interested in any advice anyone can offer

In principle I believe you should be eligible for compensation for both cancelled flights, unless either or both were cancelled for extraordinary circumstances beyond the airline's control....0

Hi - I have a similar issue. Was due to fly out on the Sunday evening.
Flight was cancelled on the Sunday morning - I had not left home so there were no additional costs.
I was rebooked on a Monday evening flight (same airline and route) which I accepted. This flight was then cancelled within one hour of departure.
So two cancelled flights = 2 lots of flight delay compensation?
Can I also claim for my train fare to and from the airport as that was a wasted journey?
Thank you0 -

- Flight 1 was cancelled, and you were moved onto flight 2 the next day. Compensation due
- Flight 2 was cancelled and you abandoned the trip. Compensation due
easyJet have a claim form for EC261 available here: Compensation Claim Form (easyjet.com) I would fill that in twice, once for each flight and see what happens.
In terms of your rail tickets, I'm unsure whether you can claim them or not as the airline is not responsible for this type of out of pocket expenses - the compensation is designed to cover that. You could try submitting a claim though.1
