Trouble keeping landline number
in Broadband & internet access

I am coming to the end of my current broadband deal with Virgin Media. Not one of the new providers I'm looking to move to (TalkTalk, Vodafone, Plusnet, Now) says that I can keep my existing landline number. Staggered at this as we've had the same number for over 18 years and have switched provider in the past (including to and from Virgin) without an issue regarding the number. Any suggestions?

However, I have now negotiated a deal with Sky who do promise to keep the number. Not quite as cheap as some other suppliers current offers but not too bad. Just puzzled as to why they can do it but others can't???
