Trouble keeping landline number

I am coming to the end of my current broadband deal with Virgin Media. Not one of the new providers I'm looking to move to (TalkTalk, Vodafone, Plusnet, Now) says that I can keep my existing landline number. Staggered at this as we've had the same number for over 18 years and have switched provider in the past (including to and from Virgin) without an issue regarding the number. Any suggestions?

This does not seem correct - if you have not moved home your landline should stay....it is the email that will change.

Thanks for the response. Yes - I'd read something similar to this but no other supplier is offering to port the number.
However, I have now negotiated a deal with Sky who do promise to keep the number. Not quite as cheap as some other suppliers current offers but not too bad. Just puzzled as to why they can do it but others can't???0 -

We recently moved from Virgin Media to NOW Broadband with a landline and were able to keep our old landline number we'd had for more years than I can remember.0
