The question is about them saying to send your old licence back to them.
While I'm at it, why is FireFox telling me I've spelled licence wrong??
Anyway I'm basically just checking whether it's like when BT tell you you 'have' to send their box back once your contract is up & you move to another provider, then follow up with a bag but in actual fact no you don't have to & nobody is going to come knocking at your door to take you away.
Is sending the licence back something you have to do or just something they'd like you to do?
Basically can you get in bother for not doing it?

Brie said:licence / license - first is UK and second is American spelling?probably. In America land, license is both the noun and the verb, everywhere else that speaks English licence is the noun & license is the verb.In firefox, tools> settings>general scroll down for language, set it to English (GB)To answer the question, sort of, is there a box for "I've lost my licence"? It is probably extra if you have "lost" the original......I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Theoretically they expect it back, but I interpreted OP to be more about whether there are any consequences of non-compliance in practice, i.e. is anyone actually aware of any follow-up action from not returning a replaced licence? I certainly didn't return the last one I replaced a few years ago and haven't been cast into the Tower yet....marcia_ said:Yes you can, they want it back you cant have two licences3 -
Lol, i send mine back every 3 years. No tower just a phone call saying to return it before new one is issued.0

Ah, most only need to do so every ten years, so maybe more stringent conditions apply to those over 70 (or whatever else requires you to do this)?marcia_ said:Lol, i send mine back every 3 years. No tower just a phone call saying to return it before new one is issued.1 -
The difference is that at aged 70 your "entitlement to drive" ends and you must apply to renew that entitlement then and every three years thereafter. Under aged 70 you are not actually renewing your licence (i.e. your entitlement to drive) but obtaining a new photocard. Old paper licences are valid until the holder reaches 70 and no renewal is required unless any of the holder's details (such as address) change.2

Thanks for the US/UK language in FireFox. That's that sorted.Regards having more than one licence - I don't particularly care. I don't have a burning desire to collect all my old licences. This is my third and I can't remember what I did with my first. I don't have it that's for sure. Maybe I sent it back but I can't remember. While I don't have a burning desire to keep it, I also don't want to send it off if I don't HAVE to. I'll just cut it up and chuck it in the bin.If the result of that is a letter/phone call saying send it back or else (we'll fine you) then that's different - because that means I HAVE to send it back (either have to or pay for a new one). But if they'll just leave me alone, no fine, then it's different and moves from being that I HAVE to to they WANT me to in which case I don't really care for what they want me to do, only what I have to do.0

Renewed twice now, over 70 licence. Not returned the expired licence both times inspite of their request. No comeback or the feds at my door to arrest me or seize them.Of course, if they provided a Freepost address or prepaid return envelope, I would gladly comply!1
