Fell for a new phone scam...

We should have been more careful, should have done our due dilligence - but oh well we are where we are.

Scam we fell for was basically the one in the link below. The differences for us are, it was 2 phones that were delivered rather than one. 1 phone was sent to the scammers. When the 2nd phone arrived it's when we realised what was going on. Phoned the police, who pointed us towards the action fraud site. Contacted bank - who've closed accoutns, cards, changed security checks etc. Contacted carphone warehouse who sent a courier around to collect the second phone. The problem we have is - carphone warehouse don't know about the other phone. Their records only show one phone being sent. Very very worried about when the company who sent the other phone decides to contact us wanting either their 1. phone or 2. compensation for their losses. The phone is selling for around £600-£700 in most places. Right now Action Fraud are not picking up and their auto message is saying response could take up to 28 days.

Car phone warehouse sent a courier? Sure it was them not the scammer? Companies would usually send pre paid packaging for return

you don't need to ring action fraud you can report on their website

I lodged a report on Action Fraud, but wanted to know what happens next. What I need to do.

Nothing happens next. Action fraud will pass on to the police and they will either file it away or investigate it. Probably the first

Action Fraud may pass it onto the police. There's every chance Action Fraud will file it.

I don't understand how you know (why you think?) that two phones have been delivered, when you only received one and carphone warehouse say that only one was ordered and sent. What makes you think the scammers have received a second one from somewhere  ? Sent by whom ?
It seems more likely, as marcia says, that the scammers got their hands on a phone by posing as the couriers who picked up the one sent to you......

Yes the bank advised us on this and by doing this we found out all the various searches that were made. One by one we called all the different network providers. Most of them said nothing was created but two of them said yes accounts were created. They took the details, closed the accounts  and notified their fraid/corporate teams.

I know we had two phones because we received two phones. Carphone Warehouse said they issued only 1 phone, they don't know and so far we haven't been able to find out where the other one was from.

I'll come back to the thread as I get more info or need some help. Right now, my brain is totally frazzled.

Apologies - In your original post you seemed to be suggesting that one phone was sent to you and another one went directly to the scammers.  You said that 'The differences for us are, it was 2 phones that were delivered rather than one. 1 phone was sent to the scammers.'
So one phone got picked up by courier.  Where is the second phone ? Do you still have it ?

Yes I can see how my original post was misleading but to try and simplify this is what happened.

Fraudsters called pretending to be carphone warehouse, took details and supposedly ordered phone X.

A few days later phone Y was delivered to my home it was the wrong model. I sent this phone on to the fraudsters.

Later that same day phone Z was delivered to my home it was also the wrong model. I realised the fraud at this stage. Phone Z has been returned to the real carphone warehouse.

During this whole situation, I have discovered this is very common and some people have suffered even worse than I have.

I have no one to blame but myself - but it is what it is and now I'm trying to undo the mess I'm in.
