Hi all just need bit of advice. My flight was cancelled from paris to manchester. The next flight to manchester was 4 days later as all other flights had been cancelled. They offered to fly me from paris to gatwick the same day having 3 children and my wife with me i felt this was the only choice I had. When getting to gatwick by the time going throgh passport control and collecting my luggage there were no train back to liverpool. I had to then quickly try and book a hotel for five people 9.45pm on on the eve of the jubilee managed to do it. I had to pay £42 train from gatwick to london to Euston station £195 for the hotel £20 on snacks and drinks then £272 for the train to liverpool the next morning. Can i claim these expenses back from easyjet? In addition should i get the full compensation of £220 per person as getting rerouted to to london rather than manchester that there was no chance of getting me to my original destination in less than a hour and a half from landing?

Firstly, you should be eligible for the £220pp compensation simply for the original flight being cancelled (regardless of delay in ultimate arrival time), unless it was caused by exceptional circumstances beyond the airline's control.
In terms of reimbursement of incurred expenses, the airline is obliged to get you to your final destination, so there shouldn't be an issue with the train fares (although they could argue that their obligation would only cover you as far as Manchester airport) - certainly worth trying for the rest, but it wouldn't be a surprise if they put up more of a fight there.
