Does your provider in Australia not have a roaming agreement with somebody in the UK?Alternatively just get an Asda Mobile sim if your phone is unlocked:Also make use of public wi-fi spots where available.

There's an unlimited everything SIM available for £7.50 for the first month from Lebara, you'll need a UK address for delivery and if you don't cancel it'll renew at £25.

There are lots of cheap pay as you go providers in the UK. They all utilise the major networks which have varying degrees of coverage.
I wouldn't recommend Asda as they use the Vodafone network which in many parts of the UK has poor coverage (awful where I live). I would look for one based on EE or Three personally.0 -

How much of a data package do you think you will need for the time you will be here? Many of the places you will be will likely have wifi (hotel or friends for example) so you won't need data there. Lots of other places like pubs etc have free wifi these days.
So if all you want is to check emails and browse the web on a non urgent basis then you likely won't need a lot of data, so the unlimited £35 contract would not be good value.
This is a comparison of some options https://www.comparemymobile.com/buy/sim-only/30-day-sim-deals/
Smarty & ID Mobile for example use the Three network0 -
£35 for unlimited data from three is too expensive.
Smarty (useThree network) do it for £20.

Giffgaff is not the cheapest, but they send sim card overseas.

Lebara network could also take into consideration as it includes 100 international mins, just in case you need to ring Aus number.

If you don't have a uk address for them to post the SIM card, Poundland sell them for £1.
