What energy saving are you aiming for this year?

Picked the 1-10% option. I'm a low user anyway, and have already reduced my annual electricity down from 1,350kw to 955kwh over the last two years or so. I switched to using a slow cooker or air fryer, don't watch TV (it was only ever back ground noise anyway), have one led light on at a time, shorter showers, etc. It was amazing how it all adds up.
Where I am hoping to see savings is in heating bill later this year. I have just had the exterior walls of my house completely re-insulated and new windows/doors fitted, so it theoretically it should be more costing me less to run the oil boiler once the air turns chilly again.1 -
Thank you I have been battling with EON they have been charging my meter upside down. They have charged me for the Eco7 at the normal rate. That I have rectified after 6 months battle. I bought an air fryer learning how to use that instead of using my oven. Any tips are welcome0

It's trial and error.yasy15 said:Thank you I have been battling with EON they have been charging my meter upside down. They have charged me for the Eco7 at the normal rate. For us if it says 200oC set it at 180oC otherwise the outside of food gets overdone and the middle not so much.
We have started making a list of the food we cook in it and the temps and times to use as our guide.1 -
Bit of a bump in light of the Energy Price Guarantee0

My Aug 2021-Aug 2022 compared to Aug 2020-Aug 2021 is electricity down 17.8% and gas down 25.6% During that time we bought a new washer-dryer (much more efficient), changed all our windows (no more drafts) and we have reduced our hours of work with Mrs PP retiring this Aug and me dropping my hours to 70% since April. The benefit of being at home more often is that on sunny days we have shifted our main cooking / dishwashing to when the sun is highest in the sky thus generating maximum solar energy. If we treat ourselves to a takeaway we try to do that on cloudy / rainy days. However, just like everyone else our bills are higher. To minimise the rise we are having a new gas boiler installed (replacing our 26 year old unit) before the latest energy cap rise. A ~45% improvement in gas burning efficiency should neutralise the rise in unit rate leaving our bills roughly constant.poppellerant said:Slinky said:I've just compared our gas and electric consumption in May 2022 against May 2021. We've REDUCED our electric consumption by 31%, and our gas by 61% (was May very cold last year?), and our bill is 23.7% higher. Heaven help us all come the winter. Our anticipated gas usage has gone down from 17700 to 13300 and electricity from 3600 to 2570 across the past year.I can sympathise with your feelings of despondence, having compared my usage and costs to last year after seeing your post.Last year, in kWh, my annual usage for gas was around 6900 and electric was around 2850. This cost me about £60/pcm with Green. This year, in kWh, my annual usage for gas is around 5400 (~21% less) and electric is around 2500 (~12% less). This costs me about £115/pcm (~91% more) with EDF.The above costs are calculated for the actual usage in my spreadsheet, which is very accurate.I should also add that the comparisons are exactly a year apart to the day and even hour. This is thanks to my diligence of taking meter readings. So to say I feel deflated is a bit of understatement right now. And that's before the dreaded rise in Autumn.

From September 2021 to September 2022 I cut back on 600 kWh's for electricity and 5,800 kWh's of gas.
My annual usage is now 1,200 kWh's for electricity and 3,200 kWh's for gas. I'm set to save another 200 kWh's electricity this year by downsizing my TV. But there is not much more I can do unless I get rid of the fridge freezer and my daughter stops having toast for breakfast, and stop watching TV for the 4 or so hours it's on a day.
Gas I can't cut back on anymore, I had the heating on very little last winter although it was mild many day in my house were cold and I turned it in for a max of 1-4 hours a day on the coldest days just to take the nasty chill out the air. I just hope it snow's this year it keeps the heat in my house and doesn't get no where near as cold when it's around.
So will I cut back this year? I doubt it0 -
To answer the poll - none.
The value I perceive from the energy I use outweighs its cost.
Energy efficiency would be a factor when I’m replacing something, but even then it wouldn’t be the driver.0 -
My ghast is completely flabbered. With 7.1 kWs of solar panels, and as a result no gas usage June to Aug inc, I still import 3,300 kWhrs electricity (actually use 4,600 kWhrs) and 9000 kWhrs of gas. 4 bed detached, 3 adults.Coffeekup said:From September 2021 to September 2022 I cut back on 600 kWh's for electricity and 5,800 kWh's of gas.

I really need to merge the contents of the two chest freezers in the garage, then switch off the 30+ y/o Zanussi. Should save a fortune
