Good job I'm an early bird rather than a night owl..so if they can turn the power off at 9.45pm that would be great, cheers. 😉
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

I seem to remember one lot in the early 70s when I was still at Uni. Lasted 2 to 3 hours at a time but the areas being deprived must have been published because I can remember planning my "studies" in the library (and afterwards in a local pub) when my digs had no power and vice versa.

Every home in the UK is assigned to a group, the schedule for the groups to be cut-off was published and if this does happen again then the same will happen this time.
No reason to suspect it will be handled any differently than before, so it will be the DNO controlling it and nothing to do with smart meters.
Right now though the talk is not about domestic cuts but limits on industrial use, so lets hope it stays that way.

I agree, it will not be done by smart meter, it will be cut off by area/grid connection. If they tried to use smart meters there would be a huge turn against them and if there is a signal turning them off it will also be very easy to block that signal.

The thing is it becomes quite difficult, domestic cuts are less palatable to the general public, but have far smaller economic consequences. The general public prefer cuts to industrial usage, but they cause huge economic impact. If there are cuts it would be far better from a pragmatic perspective to limit domestic supplies than to impact industrial supply, whilst explaining to the public the reasons behind that decision.

I remember the power cuts of the early 1970s.  In order to save energy even further, the telly shut down at 10pm in an attempt to encourage people to go to bed early and switch all the lights off.  Wasn't there a baby boom 9 months later?

Expecting understanding from the public, and strength from the Government, both seem like unlikely outcomes :)

Weeks of regular power cuts would end any government...
    One can only hope.

If there's a real risk of power cuts next winter, it makes even less sense that there is no government drive for improved insulation, or other measures to reduce energy usage (in my humble opinion).

The link doesn't need all the junk after it !
60Hz may not be suitable for all appliances.
And what's the bit about the Four Stroke engine??
Update: In the detailed specs it also claims to be 50Hz.  Presumably they've taken the original American specification and messed it when preparing the UK version.  The UK price is a rip off, the left pond price is $799.
