Stopping rugs slipping on carpet floor

So I'm getting a bit annoyed at my Google results giving conflicting messages so here I am.
Have a heavy rug in front of the fire in the living room which moves slightly over time. Nothing too major & not overly irritating.
However the rug that's not so heavy that's in front of the front door (on the inside, obviously) moves quite a lot and frequently too. Looking to see how to stop this happening.
Read this: https://www.rugsdirect.co.uk/blog/how-to-stop-rugs-moving-on-carpet-wooden-floors-and-laminate/ which sent me here: https://www.rugsdirect.co.uk/underlay/anti-slip-rug-underlay-for-rugs-on-carpets/ so searched the term as that link didn't have photos and landed here: https://www.amazon.co.uk/anti-slip-rug-underlay/s?k=anti+slip+rug+underlay
Looking at the material on show, that's what we have under there anyway. Ok it'll just be some cheap eBay stuff but I'm not about to buy 100 different brands, experimenting on what does and doesn't work only to find out top dollar doesn't necessarily buy top quality results.
So I search this: https://www.google.com/search?client=firefox-b-d&q=stop+rug+slipping which gives a result of waffle rug pads. I search that and end up here: https://pvrugs.com/dont-buy-waffle-rug-pads?amp=1
Which is when I start to get annoyed & thought sod this I'll hop on to MSE & see if anyone has had this problem & sorted it with something that actually works, properly.

I didn't check all your links, but all these things help only when a rug is on a solid floor. If it's carpet, in my experience, a rug moves, usually unidirectionally, mainly because of the flexible upright pile. In this case IMO it's almost impossible to stop it (except, possibly, but nailing/screwing) to the floor.0

Random thought - Find some heavy duty self adhesive strips of velcro. Stick the hook side only to the back of the rug, and see is it grips the carpet underneath.I have a small mat in front of the fire - It has a load of dimples on the back which holds it in place on the carpet. A small amount of movent from time to time, but no where near as much as a smooth backed mat.Her courage will change the world.

Hmm interesting.Would you not stick the fluff side to the carpet as well?I actually have some H/D velcro tape0

Bought some of the Ikea Rug Stoppers (LINK)
It certainly FAILED to do the job with a rug on carpet !
Their site does show it in use on hard flooring to be fair0 -

The fluff side probably wouldn't stick to the carpet too well and it would leave a sticky mess when you peel it off. Get a suitably heavy duty hook side, and it should grip the pile of the carpet - Something like this - https://www.3m.co.uk/3M/en_GB/p/d/b40068919/Have a chat with 3M and ask for some samples - I've found them to be very helpful in the past and have sent me free samples on a couple of occasions.

Why my rugs all went to the charity shop……0

These claim to do the job but I have no personal experience of using them. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Non-Slip-Grippers-Prevent-Creeping-Movement/dp/B00ZC46G5W

Pretty good suggestion. I'll give them a shout.koalakoala said:Why my rugs all went to the charity shop……
I prefer any dirt coming in to go straight on the rug. If it's bad enough then it's no problem to go as far as binning the rug and buying a new one.Same with the one in front of the fire. If the fire spits at the wrong moment then I prefer the rug to take the burner. Very easy to replace. Carpet not so much.TELLIT01 said:These claim to do the job but I have no personal experience of using them. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Non-Slip-Grippers-Prevent-Creeping-Movement/dp/B00ZC46G5W
Look like they'll do.Reviews put me off. Think I'll be going with FBs suggestion. Thanks though.0 -
Dunelm do a "stop rug moving" material, it works for us on carpets and hard floors. They call it a "rug anti slip mat".Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0
