Should I go for 25 days instead of 28 days? If 4 days enough time to sort any problems out should they arise?
I don’t think anyone can really answer that.

It’s probably more about being careful not to contradict the reasons you get the disability benefit.
How can the poster "contradict the reasons..." when most people know that often people with MH issues can often benefit from hols, breaks etc if that is what they want.
PIP mobility - need help with working out a route and following it? For example?

There obviously isn't a definite answer to taht because it depends on the nature of a delay. However, in my opinion, it is best to give yourself a few days in hand so 25 days is a sensible proposition.

If you go aim for 28 days a delay of only a few hours could mean that your flight ends up arriving the next day which would be enough to break the rules.

As mentioned earlier I can't remember whether days of departure from and arrival in the UK count as days in the UK or days overseas (nor can I remember if the days for HB and ESA differ).
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

If someone else Is paying there is no issue. But the OP  Is clearly inferring that all of this is paid for from benefits, Which clearly isn't possible
    OP gets £1400 a month.
Which given their spending should be more than enough for their trips.

Sorry to sound rude, but am I missing something here? My wife and I work full time, and we shall not have a holiday this year,as we cannot afford one.

I get they are in supported living and have health issues for which benefits are paid. But if they are travelling as much as they claim, then this is not what benefits is for.

I disagree. There's no rules on what exactly you can spend your money on, you can spend on exactly what you want.
    I also disagree.

I work long hours in often complex environments and appreciate if I hadn't been able to get away for a few days when required (and often at short notice), I'd have had a mental breakdown long before now.

Travel can be very good to mental health, offering OP a pathway to benefit their future.

Possibly yes, but make sure there are a few flights in the middle, preferably with that airline.

There is no flexibility in certain benefit rules as many found out in March 2020. It definitely wouldn't be in your interests to fall foul of this.

    Absence up to four weeks
A claimant (or household member) will not be treated as occupying the home if they are temporarily absent from GB for a period exceeding four weeks. When calculating the period of absence, the day of departure from GB is taken into account and the day of return is disregarded.
I can’t find the guidance on which days are counted for ESA.

    That seems a sensible compromise.
I’ve only been delayed once for 24 hours in 30 years.
people have been delayed a lot longer but I don’t think you should live you live on the basis of a edge case of volcanic ash, so it’s a sensible trade off that would work unless you are very unlucky and if it happens you’ll have to deal with it.

  • Also Sri Lanka has been, and continues to be, a no go area because of internal issues
I didn't realise this until i looked. See link https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/sri-lanka  OP claims they went there for 28 days since October 2021, not sure how that was possible.
