Buying a train ticket online for someone else ..

Options
Howdy !
Yes good luck with that with the impending strikes I hear you cry 😺

Anyway , situation; a family member who isn’t totally computer literate is promising to visit in the not too distant..

I have both the train line app and South worsen railway app , and used both in the past for myself .

Is there a way that I can purchase ticket and it could be sent to family members app ??

Thanks in advance ..

Assume it should work if you both login with the same username and password.

Is it (still) possible to request paper tickets for pickup from a ticket machine at station convenient for your family member?

Doesn’t that usually require the payment card to get the tickets?

ETA - I think the last tickets I  bought I did via the national rail website not the app and they were emailed to me if I bought them as a guest. That would work - you could just forwards them the email.

I'm wondering how much time you have before the planned trip and just how computer 'unsavvy' they are.

You could forward the online tickets for them to print or print the tickets off and post them or they could just go to their local station and buy them in the old fashioned way. 🤔

You get a QR code with online tickets now dont you? SO just screen shot the QR code and send them that to show when asked to see the tickets. Or this a option to share these tickets if they are capable of doing that

I bought south eastern tickets this weekend and the confirmation email says " In 30 minutes your ticket(s) will be ready for collection from local station, or any other station where ticket collection facilities are available.

To collect your tickets from a ticket machine you will need both your collection reference XXX123XX and any UK bank credit or debit card."

At the order page it also said that any card would be OK with the collection ref for Paypal purchases.

Make sure the name on the ticket is the name of who you want to use it. Then, forward the email to the other person who can open the e-ticket attachment on their phone or print off a paper copy.

Wow! Thanks a lot for the quick and helpful advice as per usual.
My family member is hopeless when it comes to user names and passwords , and panics / gets ratty about them .
    He is also dyslexic .

He is good at apps to a point  though, and I did tell him to get the apps that I mentioned.
The idea being that the ticketless tickets go into the ' wallet' on his phone ..and voila !
Tbh, I think I wouldn't have any problem putting his name etc on tickets.
I know his email address , and getting his password ( should he get his act together there)should work .
The problem is payment , as PayPal / debit credit cards would be in my name .
He still does things the old fashioned way unfortunately , and wouldn't dream of doing online shopping. Always a barrier with him .

I've got time to mull things over , so we'll see what gives ..

The billing address and name can be different to the name on the ticket. If you have time, I also think you can have the tickets sent by post to their address.
