Faulty washing machine

We purchased our Bosch washer dryer in October 2020 from John Lewis and it cost £1000. In August 2021 it developed a fault so we called out the engineer who fixed the problem. It has now developed the same fault and I feel this is unacceptable. This washing machine is not fit for purpose, it should last at least five years! Who ist contract with? Is it John lewis or Bosch? Bosch have told me that they will only escalate my complaint after the third engineer visit which is disgusting? What happens if the washing machine breaks a third time outside the two year warranty? Would we be entitled to a replacement? I don't feel this is an acceptable process. Why would it develop the same fault twice? Is this not unusual?
Just angry as being fobbed off and not really sure what my rights are?
I have a disabled daughter who wears nappies, I can't be without my washing machine? I use it daily. What ate my options? Am i entitled to a replacement? Thanks

Presumably you still have your receipt and all the instructions and warranty bumpf from JL.  Have a look at that as at a minimum I would have thought a machine should last a very mere minimum of 2 years which obviously yours hasn't.

With respect, you are not the engineer. Let them do their bit and it could be a different fault. Most washing machies break down at least a couple of times within 5 years. We look after our items and more often than not the washing machine breaks down & after 5 years we get a new one. Bosch or any make for that matter IMO is not what they used to be 10/15 years ago.

Did you tell them re your daughter as this would often get you the engineers asap.

If when you get a new washing machine, you could end up with different problems.

What is the problem with the machine and what did they do last time

Really? Not a problem we have had with the two we have had in last 10 years (one in a rental and then our own as rental was just a cheap Beko)

I'd be very disappointed if my machine broke a few times in five years.

    Yes, really!

We take out extended warranties on almost everything.
Its always the washing machines that go, breakdown.

The fridge freezer all 6'^" of it broke down 4 times in the first 5 years and now 12 years old not broken down since

We have several Sony TV's, 1 broke down twice  within 5 years, the other three going strong and one is about 9 years old the others are about 6

    So it hapens.

We take out extended warranties in the hope they don't break down but if they do..

How much per year do all these extended warranties cost you?

OP let them try and fix it again, assuming its still under warranty. Are you dealing with JL ?

The fact you use it every day will obviously shorten its lifespan as most consumers won’t use a washing machine every day

Why do so many people think that mechanical devices have to last a certain time and not take into account the amount of use they are subject too. The OPs machine has had about three times the use most people would have put the machine through in the same period. Anyone buying a new car and driving 50000 miles a year is going to be looking at potentially more repairs than someone driving 10000, it is no different for domestic products.

Washer dryers are more prone to breakdowns than separate machines, and the OP’s one  is going to be knackered after 3-4 years.

Never had a problem in over 50 years of buying appliances. All have lasted into double figures.

Washing machines coped with washing for family of four and blankets for multiple dogs. Was used most days, sometimes more than one load a day.

Only  one tv 'broke' and that was one month before JL 5 year guarantee ended.  They refunded what we paid for it under their 5 year guarantee at the  time. The replacement is still going strong again into double figures

Is a potential problem that the OP seems to have gone down the Bosch warranty route from the outset, rather than going back to JL under CRA 2015?  (Or at least that's what I assume from their comments that they called an engineer out and they've had discussions with Bosch but no mention of JL).

I agree a W/M should last longer than 2 years, but if the OP is trying to enforce a warranty they are stuck with whatever the warranty says.

If the OP has already had the m/c fixed by Bosch under warranty - and independently of JL - do JL as the retailer still have responsibility for it under CRA 2015?  Or can they say "Not our problem any longer after you got Bosch to repair it previously."
