If a bank did this to me I would almost certainly close my account and go elsewhere. I would have to be getting something amazing out of HSBC to put up this type of thing.

Unfortunately, as a new customer somewhere else, you might well find that the new bank is even more twitchy.
Once they build up a pattern of behaviour for you they are less likely to suspend accounts.0 -

His card doesn’t work. ... John telephones his bank to ask what’s going on. ... The Bank’s centralised call centre is less than helpful. They tell him to come into the branch. ...Again they cannot help ... John calls up the Bank the following day to complain. They tell him the account has been suspended, but they cannot say why. They suggest he pops into a branch. .... He goes into a branch and after being kept waiting for what seems to be an inordinate amount of time is told that they cannot give him any further information ...Why can’t the Bank tell John about the SAR? ... It is a criminal offence to tip someone off about a SAR ... if John was involved in an international fraud, knowing that a SAR had been made could prompt him to notify co-conspirators and/or flee from the jurisdiction.... "It's just unbelievable how people keep seriously repeating this nonsensical rubbish and believe that it can make any sense to anyone capable of thinking! What's the point in giving a customer run-around? John earning £30K has to be a complete imbecile not to realise instantly that the account freezing was caused by the £100K credit from Nigeria and not to inform his alleged 'co-conspirators'.'Brett Willson', are you really incapable of inventing any more plausible story to prove the point about so called 'tipping' and that a customer really deserves this pushing from pillar to post numerous times?!Rant over........0

#RealityCheckI defend common sense, not some imaginable customer. That said, that imaginable customer deserves some defence too. He wasn't a criminal and received a legitimate inheritance.
