I took the time and effort to direct you to the message I was referring to and you carry on. My mistake, best ignored.dil1976 said:
Yes I have read the original post and there is no mention in there of s75 protection that has only been mentioned by othersdiystarter7 said:0 -
I think the point is the op won't get s75 protection anyway if he doesn't have a card machine. Hence why it was a bit of a moot point even if it wasn't op who said it.1

He can't, and won't. Plenty of small tradesmen don't accept credit cards and there's no obligation on them to do so.diystarter7 said:
So how can the OP get protection if the tradesman has no card reader?marcia_ said:If you pay by bank transfer you have no protection like s75 or chargeback2 -
Increasingly more and more tradesmen are starting to accept card payments because it's become easier for them with the likes of those little SumUp or Zettle type card readers that then settle the payment into the trader's bank account usually by the next day or so. Also with online invoicing software that integrates with payment gateways such as Stripe, GPay, etc.
Although it depends on how legit your tradesman is whether they are running a proper business or an old school "cash in hand" type. Even then they might not be happy to take a credit card for a £30K extension job compared to a £200 repair job.3 -
Which part of that "does not add up". If the tradesperson doesn't have a card read, you can't pay them with a card, which means you can't get S75 or chargeback protection. The end.diystarter7 said:

If they don't have a PDQ or card machine then paypal or BACS will be best I reckon.0

Thanks to the likes of Zettle and SumUp there are an increasing number that do, at least in London. Have had two which have accepted a card payment saying I've been the first to ask and their son/daughter got them the thing but haven't used it since.Be prepared for him to say he doesn’t take credit cards (In my experience, most don’t)
Dont get enough tradesmen to argue if its got to "most" yet and cannot comment on the rest of the country but would imagine with the covid anti-cash movement at least some will have decided now was time to get something like Zettle given there is no ongoing fees or withheld funds unlike traditional card machines etc0
