As per the 2024 posts above, the private mortgage route is no longer an option, so posts from 2022 are no longer relevant.Usedname said:

Legal mortgage all signed up and registered with the land registry. The solicitor sorted it out, but I had checked online first. I can’t remember where I found the answer but I suspect just on a government website. I think the mortgage had to have an interest payment as part of the legal requirements for it to be a mortgage but we just used a nominal amount. The tricky thing was getting the last bit of the bonus through because he bought in June and it takes a while to get it added but it was fine in the end.0
