Who holds the warranty for eBay sales?

I bought a Greenworks grass trimmer on eBay on 27th August 2021 and have used it a few times without
problems, before it stopped working during use. I tried to contact the eBay seller but was blocked by eBay as the sale had been more than 60 days previously.
No reply from the seller direct and the manufacturer says it only holds warranties from registered eBay sellers and my seller wasn't 'registered'
where do i go next?

The only warranty on eBay goods is what seller specifies in the listing.A licensed seller of a product can offer a warranty backed by the manufacturer and if that is the case here then you need to trace the seller and talk to them. A business selling a new item does not necessarily have any warranty to give , and neither has a private seller.
If the company say the seller was not a registered /authorised seller then you either need to go back to them to see what they can do to help, or look into any legal, options, and that depends on the nature of the fault especially as it is over 6 months since purchase, and added to that there is no way you can now how long the seller had the item before selling it, so it could be over a year old already.
During lock down there was a lot of issues around hot tubs where they were very hard to get and some sellers were buying them when they saw them and selling them on with no guarantee or warranty. Lazy spa considered these unlicensed sales meant the hot tub was second hand.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. In some ways that is the problem buying online - you may get a cheaper price but you don't always know the status of the seller. That is (in my experience) particularly so with eBay and Amazon Marketplace sellers (although sales by Amazon itself I have had no problems with).
In order to provide a warranty, many manufacturers specify the seller has to be 'an authorised seller' or 'registered with them' or similar. Many sellers aren't - hence no manufacturer's warranty.3 -
If you click on the sellers feedback profile there should be a link to contact the seller.
Seller has obligations under the CRA (assuming they are a business) but over 6 months it becomes a bit more difficult due to burden of proof of an issue failing upon yourself if the trader disagrees that there is an issue or refuses to engage. In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces2 -
This is all of course assuming the seller is registered as a business seller. If its a private seller then either the warranty can be either on the item, and hence transfers with the item, or if not then you can assume it is not covered by any warranty.0
