Back to the topic of the underestimated usage.
I think even the first bill in November for £189 for 40 days already showed that a direct debit of £83.22 will be never sufficient to cover the cost of electricity. This is £141.75 for 30 days, almost double the monthly DD, and not even winter yet.
The February bill is almost 4 times as high as you monthly direct debit, so I cannot really see how you did miss that you are not paying enough. At the end of February you have already reached the 4200KWh after less than 5 months.
My opinion is that you used the energy and that from the bills you should have been aware that you are using much more than what was estimated. You will need to pay for the energy that you used, but you might get a small token of 50£ for them not reviewing you direct debit earlier or using a estimate that was to low.

I'm coming to the end of an E7 EDF fix in 30days, once I managed to speak to someone experienced in the UK ( very difficult , took 1 week of calling every day before finally getting lucky) They where able to convert my current E7 fix into a single rate remotely by totalising the non smart meter, turns out I could have been saving 20 per month if I had done this sooner, not surprised they never suggested it. So OP it can be done, although I did read in the online t&c's that they can do it so was armed with this knowledge to fuel my persistence.
here is my 75% price hike below if anyone's interested
previously on:
E7 d 20p kwh
n 04p kwh 21p SC
have now accepted:
Fix Total Service May24v4 35.65 pkWh, 41.66p SC
i have 14 days cooling off any thoughts whether this is still worth it over the standard variable? cheers gang

Looking ahead...do you have a trusted family member or friend "in your corner" who you'd feel comfortable asking to give stuff like this the once over and to help you understand it all.
Are you on top of your other financial matters? Banking, budgeting, savings, any debt, insurances, pensions etc?
Are you living independently? How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)1 -

Are you living independently? Thanks so much for checking in on things like this. I tend to try and manage by myself as much as possible but I'm learning to be more open since my diagnosis (which was fairly recent and only picked up due to a mental health breakdown due to financial stress - the irony!) to make sure I don't get into trouble with stuff. I have a family member who has said they will help me out if the payments get a bit too much which is a bit of a relief.I'm going to make an appointment with the bank to look at loan repayments I currently have and I'm going to start properly budgeting every month so I know where everything's going. I've already gone through my outgoings last week and have cancelled a few subscriptions I don't need any more and that sort of thing.I'm on top of things at the moment and I know to ask for help if I need it. I'm also waiting to hear back about funding for an ADHD coach to help me manage myself better and be more organised.2
