Id be surprised if 2 people in the same household would get the £650 twice

I see no reason why they can't, especially if they are 2 seperate benefit claimants. Of course a couple claiming a benefit jointly would only be entitled to 1 payment of £650 but this is completely different. We'll just have to wait and see.
if you had 5 adults in the same house on UC they would all  £650 each

even tho they share the same gas?

    doesnt make sense

    and wont happen
These payments are to help with the general increase in costs, not specifically for gas. The specific fuel costs are the £400 rebate on the fuel bill.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

But they will use more gas than one person in a house.

Updated guidance here  https://www.gov.uk/guidance/cost-of-living-payment  doesn't use the word "household" which can only mean that for each person claiming one of the qualifying means tested benefits, they will each receive the £650, regardless of how many people in their household claim a qualifying benefit.
For example, i live with my daughter who claims UC because of a health condition. I claim Income Related ESA so we will both receive the £650.

The £650 is a cost of living payment, it's not just being paid for fuel costs. Therefore I would say it makes sense that it is £650 per person (or per couple if relevant).

It's been paid in this way because a weekly equivalent amount can't be added quickly to legacy benefits, unlike UC. That was the supposed justification for not paying a £20 per week uplift to people in receipt of legacy means tested benefits during the pandemic. The Government have decided to pay an amount in two instalments, one in July and the other in autumn to get around this problem.
  • The £326 cost of living payment landed in my santander account just after 9pm last night🙂

Thank you to everyone who responded to my thread and best of luck if you are awaiting the cost of living payment today

Sorry to piggy back. My partner & I were on income support/child tax credits until 6th May when we moved to Universal Credit as my partner started work. Our assessment period ended on 5th June & we received our payment of UC. Payments of IS & CTC used to go into my account, UC goes into my partner's account.
Our daughter is disabled so when her extended child benefit ended on her 20th birthday we claimed Universal Credit for her on the 27th April. Her assessment period ended on the 27th May & payment received into my account as her appointee just after.
Last night a DWP Cost of Living payment went into my account but doesn't identify who it's for. Nothing has gone into my partner's account yet. Are both my daughter & ourselves eligible for the COL payment & how do I check who's payment it actually is?
    Thanks in advance.

That payment last night will be for when you were claiming Income Support, it will be between you and your partner. You will not receive another one for your UC claim. You maybe entitled to the next payment because of your UC claim, it will be £324 paid sometime in the Autumn. Eligibility criteria hasn't been confirmed yet.
Your daughter won't receive the first payment because her assessment period was outside the eligibility criteria which is for assessment period that ended in the period 26 April 2022 to 25 May 2022. Your daughters ended just outside of that timescale.
