£650 cost of living payment

Hello all,
I appreciate that there's been several threads made about the recent announcement from the government regarding the £650 cost of living payment. However, I can't seem to find an answer to my query online. So let me tell you my situation, I am a carer for my Father and I receive carers allowance & income support. I've read that carer's allowance recipient's won't receive the £650 but I also read elsewhere that if you get income support (legacy benefit) you WILL receive the £650 payment. So what if you receive both carers allowance & income support? any answers appreciated.
Kind regards, Dan.

Yes you will. What isn't clear is if you live together in the same household and you both claim a qualifying benefit, whether you'll both receive this £650.
Low income benefits
You may get a payment of £650 paid in 2 lump sums if you’re getting any of the following:
- income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance
- income-related Employment and Support Allowance
- Income Support
- Pension Credit
- Universal Credit

Receiving Income Support entitles you to the £650 payment
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/cost-of-living-support/cost-of-living-support-factsheet-26-may-2022
(What you've read probably means people who receive *only* Carers Allowance wouldn't be entitled, it does not mean that receiving CA excludes people.)
Edit: cross-posted (as often happens!)1 -
Id be surprised if 2 people in the same household would get the £650 twice1

Thank you all.
Just to confirm I do live in the same house as my Father.0 -

I see no reason why they can't, especially if they are 2 seperate benefit claimants. Of course a couple claiming a benefit jointly would only be entitled to 1 payment of £650 but this is completely different. We'll just have to wait and see.

Then if your father is claiming Pension Credit or any of the other means tested benefits listed, we won't know until more details are announced.

even tho they share the same gas?
doesnt make sense
and wont happen0 -
Not sure what "sharing the same gas" has to do with the £650 payment. Like i said, we'll need to wait and see. It's not just energy bills that have increased.mongoose2009 said:
