I got an order in just before another 10% was added to the cost of the frames. From June 15th, a new set of building regs kick in - There is now a requirement for background ventilation, which some installers take to mean trickle vents must be fitted - This is not what the regulations actually say. So if you already have something like a PIV or MHRV system installed, you do not need trickle vents.

I contacted the WAC which tenders out window requirements to window companies on the customer's behalf. They offer a free service but I was wondering how they made their money. Someone said they add a commission to the final costing. Is this true? Does anyone know what percentage is added on?0

They probably get a referral fee/commission on leads that complete. I have no idea what amount or % that may be.0

Does anyone have experience of Veka windows? Or Deceunick? Or Kommerling If prices were similar and all 3 window installers had good reviews, which would you go for?0
-
I have some Veka windows in my house. All 3 brands of profile afaik would be classed as good quality. Which brand has the window style that you find most attractive?
Fitting can make or break any installation.1 -
I quite like Kommerling. I heard that the seals on Deceunick are welded and not flexible. I like the reviews on Veka.0

The company is a small local one with a good reputation. All window panes will be 4mm thick, A rated, 28mm windows, security locks, bronze coloured handles and wooden internal cills.
Does that sound fair?
Property is a semi. Fitter to remove and dispose of old windows. Insurance backed 10 year warranty.
Given the dimensions of your windows it looks like the qoutes are broadly similiar
This was from a local installer in Lancaster, NW England who had lots of good reviews on the CERTASS website
The guys who did the quote are the same guys who do the install so we got to meet the installers - they have there own local premises so if something goes wrong we can visit them in person to try to sort it out1 -
thought trickle vents were a standard install in Scotland . Installers are kicking up a fuss here (England & Wales ) because we know that customers will whack it back on us when there isn't any difference in the old draughty frames than their brand new draughty frames . Certass . fensa . assure ect have stopped testing them for ratings because they have no chance of passing .what was a rated will be back to old . even with the best installation . I've already had customers they're going to tape the vents up .

see https://www.gov.scot/publications/building-standards-technical-handbook-2020-domestic/3-environment/3-14-ventilation/
Afaik a level of ventilation is mandated but not how that is achieved. Again afaik, there is nothing to say that the trickle ventilators, if fitted, must be fitted in the window frames & indeed there are also alternative solutions allowed such as hopper windows, catches that allow for small window openings etc.1
