Good Afternoon June GC'rs!
I know technically (date-wise) we are still in May, but I work on a monthly budget, and I went shopping today, and spent the first bit of my June budget.
I got a couple of bits from MrL and MrAl - nothing bargainacious; apples, vanilla extract, chocolate chips..... As we were in a nearby town, rather than Greying Town, I took advantage of their iceyland being in close proximity, and had a trawl through (and no, I didn't qualify for the 10% discount!!). I dropped lucky with some reasonable YS'd items. I got 2 x 300g of mushrooms for £1, 1 tin of Dunn5 R1ver coconut milk for 50p, 2 x 6-pack of tomatoes for 80p and a punnet of cherry toms 330g for 50p. Total spend £2.80. All useable, and veg heavy, so a worthwhile 'pop-in'. The rest of my expenditure was in m+S (YS'd w/m baps) and oven chips from H3r0n. Total expenditure was £9.44.
Will have to give some consideration to the rest of the week's meal plan, as have only done up until today.
Interestingly, I wasn't engaged in 'proper' shopping mode today - sure I got some things that I knew we needed, but my focus was on 'useable bargains' - my brain gets quite rigid about 'it's not the start of the month yet!' - rather than grocery shopping per se. But I did notice that prices seem to be going up and up. H3r0n seem to be stocking a smaller and smaller range of LMc products, but they are now pretty much £2 or 2 for £3, which is probably putting them out of occasional purchase territory for me. The cheese & onion 'sausage' rolls that I used to buy from MAl/MrL are now £1.39 for 6, and I noticed a similar product in iceyland was £1.75 - so definitely outwith our budget now. But if you've down-branded as much as you can, and shop predominantly at the discount end of the high street as it is, what other options are there? Other than cutting out all together? Rhetorical musings - no need for reply 😉

BUDGET for June: £180 for the month
Hi all, I’m very new to the forum and still finding my feet a little. I’m sorry that I don’t know how to change the colour of my post’s title to red.
I keep my receipts as standard to reconcile against my banking app, so I know that my spend for May was £180. I’m starting June with the same budget please, but this GC will make me more mindful to use up all I have before doing a home delivery shop. Especially as I have quite a bit I’d like to use up from my cupboards and freezer first. Not forgetting trying to remember/be organised enough to make myself packed lunch for work, which would make a big difference as I’m guilty of frequenting my local bakery way too much for my lunches!8 -
Nearly fainted at the till in MrL this afternoon. After very careful shops in May, none of which were over £70, I managed to hit £170
£55 of that wasn't groceries though (bottle of fancy Prosecco for neighbour who is feeding our cats, booze for camping and some cat food and medicines). Still £116 odd on groceries, but most of that was BBQ meat and snacks for camping. Barely anything to make actual dinners, though we have stocked up on coffee for the month.
The camping spends will save us money when we're there, as I really don't want to be buying food and drink at the Rally (we are camping at a country fair type thing, so lots of opportunities to spend!). It's the only half term activity the kids are getting, plus we had to cancel our holiday this year, so I don't begrudge it too much and will probably still treat them to some things when we're there. 3 teens don't half eat a lot when they're outdoors all day!
Very glad I had the £50 to carry over from last month though.June Grocery Challenge £493.33/£500 July £/£500

Thank you elsiepac, you do Sterling work running the thread, I hope your health improves.
Please put me down for £80 for June. I'll be on holiday for the last week of the month and first week of July, but need to stock up the cupboards.Grocery challenge 2025: £650/1500 annual budget8 -
@Greying_Pilgrim, H3r0n round my way used to have such a good veggie selection but for a while it has become less and less. I love Linda Mac sausages and haven't bought them in a while and I was shocked at how much they are full price, I remember when they were a quid pretty much everywhere - I tend to get them from h0m3 bar9a1ns when they have them7

I'm in for £200 again please.
This should be totally doable given that for one week we're away on hols so food will be counted as holiday spends. Good luck everyone!6 -

I would like to set a budget of £300 this month
I am hoping to spend much less but there will be 2 adults for 3 weeks, 2 adults and 3 children for 7 days and 4 adults and 3 children for one long weekend so difficult to estimate. Also 2 of them have allergies. It is so difficult to buy things without soya in. Anyway I digress! I have already done a big initial shop of £155.81. Since then I have done a top up of £42.68 on allergy favourites for Grandsons.
good luck everyone it is definitely getting tougher.
