FrugalHedonist - it was purely fluke that I had a bag of frozen mixed veg. I usually buy the bags separately, but I bought it with the intention of 'doing a Jack Monroe' and sorting the veg out individually and then using the veg for recipes or accompaniments that way. The carrots do really well in Sally Butcher's Afghan Carrot Hotpot, so that was at the back of my mind. As it is, I got to try a new recipe and use what I had in. I would totally try the recipe using other veg, I would just take account of their 'robustness' - irrespective of whether I was cooking in a saucepan or the PC etc.FrugalHedonist said:@Greying_Pilgrim I may give that recipe a go on the stove as I have most of what the recipe calls for - I don't have frozen mixed veg though but suppose I could bung in some fresh carrots, tomatoes, spinach and some frozen peas

Ooh that recipe sounds good and I recently bought some yellow split peas. I was on the hunt for green lentils as HB used to stock them but alas the one near me doesn't seem to do any dried pulses anymore so I ventured to a local ethnic store and managed to source 1kg brown lentils and 1kg yellow split peas £1.29 each - I don't think I can get them any cheaper than that price currentlyGreying_Pilgrim said:

Well today has been a very special day. It is my birthday. I have reached 66.i am finally a pensioner and we have more money coming in.I got taken out to lunch too.
I started this challenge in January, hoping that we would not have to dip into the last of our savings! It has been a very long haul for the last 6 years as many of you will know but we have achieved our goal. (even if I haven't always stuck to budget!) Thanks for all of your help.
Next goal is to save for renovation of living room which is the last room to accomplish in our lovely downsize by the sea. It has been nearly a 9 year project but all the more exciting for the wait.
Anyway a couple more spends today in food warehouse. £5.0o on southern fried chicken drumsticks and £3.50on teabags (240for the price of 160) so that's £7.65 with the Tuesday 10%discount for OAP'scraft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 132 made and 5 mended,

Then £2.19 on Thai crackers and mushrooms (YS - 50p from £1.09).

Thank you all. I think I will keep the name @Wicked_Lady. 😂. I will also be trying to keep to £50 a week on average for the 2 of us and less if I can although I haven't managed to stick to budget lately and it is getting harder. We need to get living room plastered, with new flooring and furniture so money will still be tight whilst we build up our savings.
I know I am one of the lucky ones.craft stash 2023 =161, 2024 = 119 2025 = £25.96 spent, 132 made and 5 mended,
