Makes sense, just for info we didn't have heating on from 11th April so these are real savings nothing to do with weather. Baselines for us to then build out Heatpump heating costs upon when we have to turn it back on for heating👍Swipe said:0 -
I've made loads of changes in the last 6 weeks. I now have a smart meter and I'm on Agile. I also had a new (to me) computer delivered the day the Smart meter was delivered and my usage has gone down. Is it the Smart meter you ask? Nope. I bought one of these https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B085S7Q1T4/ref=ppx_od_dt_b_asin_title_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and I've been testing everything. It turns out my new computer uses 0.016 kwh per hour less than the old one. As my computer is pretty much on all day its a noticeable saving. I had budgeted for 112 kwh of electric this month and I'm on target to hit 99. The lowest for any month that I've been in residence for the whole month in 20 years.
The energy monitor above is proving very interesting. My 900 watt air fryer is definitely cheaper than my mini oven, and the mini oven is certainly cheaper than a cooker. Stand out figures are my toaster at 1.55 minutes and 0.032 kwh for toast. My washing machine on quick wash 30c was 33.39 mins and 0.210 kwh. Whilst my mini oven was set on 35 minutes for frozen battered Cod and the monitor said 16.36 mins and 0.437 kwh. So the heat elements are on only half the time. Note - my mini oven has a mechanical timer. If it had a digital display the energy monitor can be fooled into thinking its on constantly.
I have to say Octopus are excellent. I registered my interest in a smart meter on the 22rd of April, I had an 'our meter team is in your area' message straight away and picked out an installation appointment for the Fri 20th May. Installed in less than an hour. The following Sunday I send an email to Octopus requesting a switch to Agile and they replied 2 days later with the link to switch. My meter isn't set up properly yet but Octopus confirmed they are getting the half hour readings and Agile is live.
As a last comment. The IHD held my interest for all of 3 minutes. If you already watch your usage closely its just a gimmick. Buy an energy monitor, they are far more useful.
