I finally got a letter on 7th June acknowledging my complaint I raised, it states that they aim to resolve my complaint by the 9th June. Still not heard anything back so they must be still working on it.
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

  • I just wanted to say that I have just been a similar situation with a number of credit cards. I was earning average wage but living alone so costs were high. I didn’t have expensive holidays or flashy cars and lived in a tiny one bedroom flat but used my credit cards to feed myself and put petrol in the car. It was the only way I could survive. But once in that cycle and there were no more 0% balance transfer offers on the table i ended up paying back almost £500 a month in minimum payments but the same was going back on in interest every month so I couldn’t see a way out.
This site gave me the confidence to face up to my debts and I spoke to my credit card companies (only 2 of them by then-but very high values) and I defaulted on the accounts. Then I read on here about people claiming for irresponsible lending so I looked into this. I looked at all the accounts that I have held for the last 15 years (and despite what people tell you - yes they can go back this far) and I contacted them. Some agreed and paid out - others went to the financial ombudsman and so far all have ruled in my favour. I still have some outstanding and will just await the FO coming back on these. I don’t expect anything but everything is a bonus.
You can see my payouts so far in my signature if interested but I now have a small pot of money that will hopefully grow into a deposit for a house but more importantly no more sleepless nights and not 1p of debt owed to anyone.
Don’t expect anything but don’t ever give up trying either!
Ppi refund of £1900 - awaiting tax back (First Direct)
Catalogue settled irresponsible lending claim £2400 (Very)
Loan company settled irresponsible lending claim £1200 (Hitachi)
1st credit card settled on irresponsible lending claim £300 (FOS recommendation-Yorkshire Bank TSB)
2nd credit card settled on irresponsible lending claim £665 (FOS decision- Fluid)
3rd credit card settled on irresponsible lending claim £2650 (FOS decision-Barclays). Tried to settle for £500 less and although FO decision agreed that they were to pay all interest charges and fees they only paid interest. Challenged and FO demanded fees and charges as well.
4th credit card settled on irresponsible lending claim £1351 (FOS decision-Capital One)
5th credit card settled on irresponsible lending claim £10,250 (FOS decision - Halifax bank of Scotland). They tried every trick in the book not to pay out. This took 18 months and lots of paperwork.
Awaiting 5 more credit cards (Tesco/mbna/first direct/Barclays egg/Santander) and 4 loan irresponsible lending claims (Black Horse/amigo/1st Direct/psa finance).

Companies have 12 weeks to issue a final response to a complaint.

Although these are only guidelines and can be extended for as long as it takes.

However, you are free to escalate to the FOS after 12 weeks have passed, if you wish, but they usually require the company to respond before they become involved.
