He says he has not got a code.
Can I refund them and ask them to pay cash rather than force them to do that?
    What is the answer?
As per my previous answer you cannot insist the buyer pays cash. If you just refund the money you lose your FVFs , and if you cancel and refund you only lose the 30p but the sale is cancelled and you would have to re list and try again - you also risk eBay thinking this is fee avoidance and potentially getting a warning.

Final value fees , the percentage you pay as fees when an item sells.

You had the listing set up correctly on ebay as collection only so the system knows?

But a banker, engaged at enormous expense,
Had the whole of their cash in his care.

No.  I think I must have done something wrong.  He said there was no code.

I have noticed that the collection code only appeared on my phone. Not laptop or tablet when I collected something recently. Again, someone collected from me & also could not find a code until I suggested they check the mobile version. Code was there. It’s a QR square with approx a 6 digit figure underneath. Ebay requires either. Although I haven’t added the collection code to my sold item as there is nowhere for it to go. Ebay took the fees ( cash sale) from something else I had sold with online payment….so they don’t seem too fussed!

Thinking about it, it does only seem to work with the app. DH had a collection last week and kept telling me that he couldn't work out how to add the code to the tracking details. Downloaded the app and it works fine.

The collection code doesn’t affect the payment of FVFs, those are charged as soon as item sells. The QR or numerical code is to protect seller against an INR.

It might ge too late now for Op, but I would advise never hand over an item if the buyer/ person collecting doesn't have the correct QR code.
If they argue / leave negative feedback, simply advise ebay you followed their terms but buyer didn't. You might have to refund the buyer but that's because they cancel the sale.
May you find your sister soon Helli.
    Sleep well.
