in Water bills
Hi,
I completed on a property purchase on the 23rd of May and I'm not moving in till June the 18th.
I have the keys and codes to the electric meter and water meter theres no gas.
The electric meter I'm ok with.
I visited the property and looked in the water meter cupboard. There are 15 flats and 15 meters. 1 is on the left and 15 on the right. Each pipe has a mains tap before the meter.
I am flat 14 and on the 23rd flat 13 also completed but moved in on that day.
When I checked the reading on the 23rd for my flat it was 000000,620 or 620 litres I went there again the next day and it was 000000,842 and then the following day and it was 000001,247. I havent used any water whatsoever so dont understand this. I'm a bit concerned as I think that it may be flat 13s meter as they are the only other flat occupied but the meter is clearly marked flat 14.
Flat 13,14 and 15 is on the 2nd floor. Flat 13 has 2 adults and 2kids so I expect water consumption will be quite high for them and I'll be living alone and dont want to foot the bill for others obviously. I'm just hoping that my meter only feeds water to my flat.
Something else I noticed is flat 11,12 and 13 have some yellow tape stuck to the bottom of the face of the meter. It's about 12" long and 1 1/2 inches wide dangling. I wonder if this means something. Maybe if theres a problem to the supply of flat 13 they have spured off mine. If this is the case can they do this as they are seperate households.
It's the 1st time I've used a water meter and want to get this sorted before I move in.
Any thoughts on this? I'll give the water company a call tomorrow but they are closed today.
Thank guys

I'd go to the management company and report a possible meter mix upNever pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill1

I'd turn the stopcock off and check that the water in your flat stops too. It's possible that eg. the toilet cistern is running, or similar.N. Hampshire, he/him. Octopus Intelligent Go elec & Tracker gas / Vodafone BB / iD mobile. Ripple Kirk Hill member.
