Thank you - I think there’s a good chance no planning permission will be needed - but I will check before I start.

There’s also an adaption grant which I might be able to get from the Council.
Disabled Facilities Grant? You may find that takes some time to apply for, and be considered. My local authority's page is woefully out of date, but suggests that a recommendation from an Occupational Therapist will be needed. I'd suggest getting that sorted ASAP, because even if you decide not to go down this route, you may get ideas you hadn't thought of. You can contact them through your local authority.

Unless you can do something which is going to be useful long term (ie after your father dies or you can no longer care for him at home), I would personally be looking at other options - like the assisted bathing I mentioned - although to be fair, a search of my council's website doesn't produce anything useful and it's not mentioned as a day centre service!

Disabled Facilities Grant - yes the occupational therapist has visited and is not keen on a stair lift due to my father being 98 & blind - she thought there was a risk of him falling down the stairs once he got to the top, which there would be.

Future use - would be for my mother who has unfortunately got 2 poor knees & breast cancer - and myself who also needs knee replacement surgery.

Time scale - I think the Council will try to drag their heels but I have a few connections there and will push them all the way.

Unfortunately, assisted bathing would not be an option with my father at present due to complex health issues.

There are companies that do portable grooming pods for pets, I don’t see why they can’t adapt them as wet rooms?

Thank you - I will have a look.

I found one solution myself here https://dignityaccess.co.uk/learn-about-washpod/

If you've no extensions on the house at present, you may be able to do so under Permitted Development - basically, up to 3 metres out from existing rear wall, and I think single-storey. Check with the local council, but should be able to do a wetroom/bedroom+en-suite in a 3 metre extension.
