my mum lives in sheltered accomodation and has storage heaters,   she is with SSE and they are so incompetent its unreal,  we havent been able to get them to do a reading or enter a reading on their system for over two years ,  they keep asking we keep giving and we seem to get nowhere.

we took some readings over a 24 hour period and wondered if this seems right as i have no idea

8am weds rate 1   30663
                 rate 2   01823

8am thurs rate 1   30691
                 rate 2   01865

so she used 28kwh during the day and 42kwh during the night,  would this be correct.   her storage heaters are off at the moment but the system is just used for hot water

I have always had gas and electric so no idea if this is right

thanks

    Both rather high.

Check the immersion which has two switches  - only the one that connects to the bottom of the tank should be on (thats controlled by the meter/time switch - the one connected to the top should be off.

Does you Mum use any oil filled rads, focal point fires, fan heaters, panel heaters   or underfloor.

That's crazy high.  Should be more like 3kWh in the day and 5-6kWh at night if only hot water is on and no storage heaters in use.

Hot water (immersion tank?) needs to be on a timer and would probably only need to be on for an hour a day to supply enough for your mum. If she's not having a bath/shower that day, maybe not at all. Boil a kettle for washing up instead.

Can you post a photo of the meter?  Have you missed a decimal point?  Sometimes they are so small as to be almost invisible.
Also do the Meter Sanity Test, especially if the meter is in a shared cupboard or meter room.

i just worked out mine and i use about 20kwh and I have a 4bed house but gas central heating so i would expect her to use a bit more but it seems excessive.   could the heating or hot water system be broken.   she has hot water and heating,  its very strange
i can have a look on saturday when im over there but she had debt collecters on her doorstep and shes 78 so getting very anxious and i cant seem to speak to anyone who understands at SSE

Your own use seems over the top, But maybe start a separate thread later for that.

Is she registered with the Priority Services Register?
SSE are so bad that they've had to agree that unresolved complaints can be taken to the Ombudsman after six weeks instead of the usual eight.  Might be a good idea at some point to switch supplier.  That won't be possible if she's in debt, and only EDF and Octopus seem to be accepting new customers right now, but something to consider when things have settled down.

Are her storage heaters with no heating at all, or is she using panel heaters or radiators instead?

This use is incredible high for May where almost no heating should be used at all.

DO her energy bills show the readings that you have supplied or are there estimates and are they much lower? The energy use you state above would be at the current EDF S7 tariff for North Scotland £19.24 in a warm month. E7 rates for other suppliers will be a bit different depending on their day/night ratio used, but you are looking here at over £7000 for electricity per year.

she has no other heating source apart from an electric blanket to warm her bed before she gets in for about an hour as she has raynaurds,    the meter readings in my post were over a 24 hour period that my brother took.
the switch that someone mentioned on the immersion is off and its on timer for 2 hours per day,  she doesnt do anything excessive.

SSE cant seem to enter readings online or on the phone,  only when the meter guy comes round,  believe me we have tried
