Hi Please can someone tell me the difference between the two retailers cables and why the prices are so different
Richer sounds https://www.richersounds.com/qed-performance-ultra-high-speed-hdmi-1-5m.html  £19.95

Kenable https://www.kenable.co.uk/en/387-certified-hdmi-21-cables?length=2m   £3.50 - £ 6.60

which retailer would you get it from as its for the Samsung  Q600A soundbar https://www.samsung.com/uk/audio-devices/soundbar/q600a-black-hw-q600a-xu/
The cable needs to be an HDMI Cable (Capable of Dolby Atmos decoding and playback)
Thanks

RicherSounds are selling a QED cable which is a large brand with notable R&D budgets to pay for. Look at the AudioQuest versions and many'll be over £100 for the same thing. Kenable are certainly not a brand I know of and so may (or may not) be buying third party options in bulk and just rebranding.

Most will argue that its snake oil, a digital signal either will or wont make it through and so paying anything more than basic is a waste.

For 1.5m run, presumably not going into a wall or such so no fire safety concerns etc, then I'd go for more or less anything badged as 48GBps... that said most of mine are expensive cables but has been a case of buying a new TV, AVR etc and asking them what can they do on price or to sweeten the deal and Richer Sounds threw in a few AudioQuest Pearl cables (£48 at the moment).

With analogue there is more potential issues with interference and similarly if you are wanting to embed in walls there are building reg requirements etc... front speakers have decent cable (again free), in ceiling/rear speakers have some much cheaper fire resistant cable from Amazon that's certainly not bell wire but not a QED etc that'd have been 4-5x the price.

Buy the Amazon Basics cables, cheaper and filly standards compliant.

IN the last month I have bought a Samsung Q60 TV and the sound was so poor I bought a Samsung Soundbar.

I got this cable from Amazon at £7 for the eARC HDMI connection TV to Soundbar and it works absolutely fine-  sound/vision fully in sync on all channels and sound is great.

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B083SGQL8T

Soundbar comes on when the TV is switched on, off when the TV off etc although that may be a feature of eARC rather than the cable itself

    hope this helps.

  • Look at the cable specification and not the price.

Gold plated and heavily armoured cables are only cosmetically better.

HDMI cables are not capable of doing anything apart from carrying the signal, that's it.

If its just cosmetically better then its not heavily armoured and so that moves from being snake oil to outright fraud... obviously 99.9% of people dont need a more robust cable but for the 0.1% where there is more risk of damage and in particular if replacement would be difficult then an armoured cable is sensible. Used such a cable when running from a distribution matrix in the house to a TV in a summer house at the end of the garden

Any cable, if just a cable, only moves a signal from A to B so not sure why you think that makes HDMI specially?

I've bought loads of cables and other stuff from Kenable over the years and never had any kind of issue.
Paying extra can - but doesn't automatically - mean the cable is more likely to stand up to repeated handling, be more flexible, or just look better, but otherwise I wouldn't bother.

I have dealt with Kenable in the past.

Richer sounds have given me a £10 credit because a cable wasn't in the box with the sound bar and offered me a £10 HDMI cable which I said I need the high speed one and sent them the link to the £20 one.

Since it it is 1.5 Mtr long is it ok to loop it round it's self to shorten it or will that affect its performance?
    Thanks
