PS4, PS4 Pro, XBox One, One S, One X all use less than one watt on standby, PS5 and Series X/S use less than half a watt. PS5 and Series X/S all use around 70-80 watts when streaming in 4K over Wifi so they are not the power draw either.Alnat1 said:I have seen somewhere on these forums that gaming consoles do use a lot of electricity, even on standby. Probably explains it.
You can buy a gadget for about a tenner that plugs in to the wall then you plug in any device. Will show in both w and kWh usage of whatever gets plugged in.0 -
That data (if I am reading it correctly) seems to show that the TV is using around 500 watts averaged over the usage period which is pretty high, do you know what tech it is, OLED, LED, LCD, Plasma?Mrs_F_2017 said:
@MattMattMattUK that was my assumption based on the fact that nothing else was different in our consumption pattern.
Here’s my bright data the week and for Tuesday in particular.0 -
@MattMattMattUK what an impressive knowledge.I’ll monitor the usage 30 minutely next time we watch something to check if it is the TV.I can’t think of anything else we did on Tuesday night which would have caused the spike.0

@MattMattMattUK sorry crossed posted with your second reply. My husband informs me it’s a plasma TV and about 10 years old now.Thanks0

Ah ok, that makes sense, plasma is an energy intensive type of TV and are no longer made so that explains the usage, being that high is not unreasonable for a plasma. For reference it will be using 4-6 times the amount of energy as a similarly sized modern TV, however that is unlikely to justify the replacement cost.Mrs_F_2017 said:@MattMattMattUK sorry crossed posted with your second reply. My husband informs me it’s a plasma TV and about 10 years old now.Thanks0 -
Thanks @MattMattMattUK
Interesting. My husband wants a new TV but I won’t tell him your information otherwise he’ll use it as an argument for getting a new one!A new TV of my husbands choice would be in excess of £2k I would have thought so unlikely to earn its keep in energy saving! We never used to watch TV during the week so maybe we need to return to that.0 -
For comparison- this is my screenshot showing yesterday’s usage. No TV on at all. Maybe TV free weekdays is the way to go. 1 -
Right so had this months bill, based on actual meter reads not estimates.
This month have added £55 to the credit pot - direct debit is £135, have used £80.84. Meaning credit of £92.
I think I need to do some sums but if I carry on with this though the summer I could have credit of approx £250.
Then adding the £400 I could have c. £650 of credit from October.Does that sound reasonable? Or too much?0 -
Bear in mind that the £400 will almost certainly be credited in six monthly instalments.0

Hmm I’m just struggling to predict how much extra we will use during winter. Our consumption has decreased a lot - May 2021 for example we used 300kwh of electric & 575 kWh of gas v 124 kWh & 305 kWh respectively this year.
I don’t want to get to winter and not be prepared, but at the same time last winters usage doesn’t seem an accurate comparison.0
