Hi, my 15 year old is off to Africa 2023 with the school, the trip covers insurance whilst they are out there but they have suggested we get predeparture insurance as we have already paid several thousand for the trip. I cannot find anyone that will cover her, i have talked to brokers and travel agents even searched online, can anyone help
Thanks
Thanks

What's the issue you are facing?0
-
The online ones won't cover this far in advance, they will only cover a year before departure, the only one I have found costs over £100 because of area, i don't need it for when she is there just incase she breaks her leg etc before she goes!0

There are some providers (eg Holiday Extras - not a recommendation) that allow you to buy up to 18 months in advance so most likely would cover a "2023" holiday now1

What Deposit do they have to pay and when is the Balance due?
Until you pay the balance you are only at risk for the Deposit so if its eg £200 i wouldn't sweat it this far in advance3 -
I would assume that if she breaks her leg now she would have recovered well in advance of travelling. And if it happens nearer the travel date that would be covered by the insurance in place for the trip. There must be a cancellation clause in it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. ThanksGenerally travel insurance covers the trip and events that occur prior to departure that prevents the trip from occurring. Have you seen what the travel insurance included in the trip covers ?I would go back to the school
and ask what exactly they mean by pre- departure insurance? Would this be for example to cover if you loose your job and can’t make the payments ?
If this kind of trip is something that the school arranges annually they will be in a position to recommend a provider for the additional insurance cover that they are recommending.1 -
Thanks all, the school do not cover until the actual day of departure so wouldnt cover anything that happens before she leaves and obviously I cannot plan if she gets ill or breaks a limb etc!
MATTR5 we have paid nearly 2k so far from bake sales etc she waitresses every weekend so we can pay for trip, it would be heartbreaking if she couldn't go and we lost all the money

I completely understand
I hope you manage to get cover1 -
Is there a facebook page for parents?
Do you know any of the other children's parents to ask if they have sorted anything?

MATTR5, is that always true? I have seen some holidays that take a reduced deposit, but, if I am reading it correctly, you are still on the hook for the "full" deposit if in breach of the conditions (effectively meaning you may have to pay more to cancel). I appreciate this does not apply here, just asking out of interest since I know you are a TA.MATTR5 said:What Deposit do they have to pay and when is the Balance due?
